Chewbacca Challenge
Wednesday: May 1st-Friday: May 31st
Children's Room
Kids ages 0-12, write the title of your favorite book on a Chewbacca “feather,” and add the feather to Chewbacca in the Children’s Room for a chance to win a Chewbacca plushy. One feather entry per child per day. Caregivers can write on feathers on behalf of children who cannot yet write. We will draw three winners and contact them in early June. 
 
No pre-registration is required. Caregivers must accompany children 10 years of age and younger. 
Paper Baby Yoda
Saturday: May 4th, while supplies last

Happy Star Wars Day! Stop by the Children’s Room to make a paper Baby Yoda.

K-pop Dance Party
Saturday: May 11th at 1:00PM
Library Front Lawn
Kids and families, celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month with us by learning to dance BTS’ “Permission to Dance” on the library’s lawn with special instructor Kevin from KPOP CENTER. Decorate photocards of BTS, Blackpink, NewJeans, and Stray Kids, and enjoy light refreshments.
 
All supplies will be provided. While supplies last.

Mental Health Awareness Month
Monday: May 13th-Saturday: May 18th
Children's Room
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, the perfect time to check in with your emotions. Stop by all week to make an emotion stone, talk about your emotions with the help of emoji dice and feelings plush toys, and receive a warm fuzzy (faux fur ball) to hug when you’re feeling sad or worried. 
 
All supplies will be provided. While supplies last.

Korean/English Storytime
Monday: May 13th, 4:30PM-5:00PM
Second-Floor Bookstore
Join us for Korean/English bilingual storytime. We will read stories and sing in English and Korean. Fun for the whole family!

Read to a BARK Therapy Dog
Tuesday: May 14th at 6:45PM-7:45PM
Children's Fiction Area
Kids 12 and younger, come read to a dog. Readers will receive a time slot with a dog on a first come, first served basis.

Storytime with OCSA Book Bears
Monday: May 20th at 6:30PM
Children's Room
Listen to stories read aloud by high school students from the Orange County School of the Arts Book Bears Club and make a bear buddy craft to take home.
 
While supplies last. No pre-registration is required. Caregivers must accompany children 10 years of age and younger. 
SciFri: Solar System
Friday: May 24th at 3:30PM

Kids in 2nd-6th grades, come learn about the sun and eight major planets.

Listen to stories about emotional and mental wellness read aloud by our friends at the Orange County Asian and Pacific Islander Community Alliance (OCAPICA), and make crafts related to the stories. OCAPICA’s mission is “to build a healthier and stronger community by enhancing the well being of Asians and Pacific Islanders through inclusive partnerships.” Learn more about OCAPICA at www.ocapica.org.

Calling all teens in need of caffeine and a study space!
 
Due to the upcoming AP exams/finals season, our study sessions are twice this month, and our hours will be extended. Bring your friends to the Library and enjoy some lo-fi music, a virtual crackling fire, lattes from 7 Leaves, and snacks for all your cozy cafe needs. Take study breaks at our de-stressor station equipped with fidgets and other calming activities. Basic study materials and charging outlets will be provided.
 
**FREE EXAM SURVIVAL KITS AVAILABLE at both of our May study sessions! Equipped with No. 2 pencils, pens, fidgets, and brain power snacks.

Teen Kind to Your Mind Kits

May is Mental Health Awareness Month and the Library wants to remind you that we care about you and your well being.
 
Starting May 13th, stop by the Reference Desk and ask for a Kind To Your Mind Kit. Each kit is equipped with items such as journals, special stickers, stress fidgets, tea, and more.
