Much to Celebrate in May!

This month, I invite you to join us in celebrating National Small Business Week, which is an opportunity for the library to support small business owners and entrepreneurs in our community. We have a wealth of resources to support small business needs, and you can take advantage of free classes with topics ranging from cash flow to trademarks. And if that isn’t enough, we follow it up with an engaging discussion led by Rhys Williams, Managing Director of FAU Tech Runway.
 
Star Wars fans of all ages can look forward to our second annual May the 4th Be with You celebration. See below for a list of day-long activities. I hope to see you at one of our many events and classes this month!

High Blood Pressure Prevention

May is National High Blood Pressure Education Month, and FAU is partnering with the Boca Raton Public Library to help people reduce their risk of high blood pressure, also known as hypertension. In this free presentation with Dr. Leonard Berkowitz, you'll learn what hypertension is and what causes it; symptoms of hypertension to be on the lookout for; what to eat to reduce their risk of hypertension; and how to treat hypertension.

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Graduation

Has your child reached the 1,000-book milestone in the "1,000 Books Before Kindergarten" program? Come celebrate with family at a graduation ceremony especially for them! Haven't reached 1,000 yet? Keep reading, there will be a ceremony every year. Don't know about the program? Ask at the Youth Services desk at either library for program information, and give your child a head start! Enrollment required.
Story Time Enrollment Begins

Boca Raton Public Library cardholder enrollment opens on May 24 for the 7-week Summer Story Time session. Children 4 and under may enroll in 1 story time program in only 1 library location. Classes begin the week of June 10 and end on July 26. To enroll, visit the calendar at bocalibrary.org, click on the first class of the session for which you want to enroll, and follow the directions. Non-cardholder enrollment will begin Tuesday, May 28.
Special Guest Drop-in Story Time: Dump Truck Driver

Our guest reader this month is a dump truck driver for the City of Boca Raton. After story time, head outside to check out the cool dump truck! No enrollment required. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
