Shute Park Collaboratory
The Shute Park branch's Collaboratory makerspace opens this month! The Collaboratory is a great space for people of all abilities to explore the possibility of making art, making science, making crafts, or making anything!
Opened in 2007 and expanded in 2013, the Hillsboro Brookwood Library houses most of the Hillsboro collections. The second floor boasts plenty of comfortable seating, a quiet reading room, internet computers, and an art gallery. Don’t miss the Collaboratory – a space to explore the possibility of making and creating.
The recently renovated Hillsboro Shute Park Library is a neighborhood branch library and community gathering spot. Located within Shute Park, the entrance is across from the playground. The library has a strong collection of children's books and materials in Spanish.
Hillsboro Public Library's Book-O-Mat, an automated book kiosk, is located downtown.

New and wonderful
The Nanny by Gilly MacMillan
"A gripping psychological thriller, with a twinge of mystery and historical fiction. I kept going back and forth about who I thought the true villain was; it definitely kept me on my toes! This is evidence of excellent writing. This book is set to be released in September, so I recommend putting it on hold while the wait list is still relatively short."

March: Book One by John Lewis
"Fantastic! March (Books 1-3) tell the story of John Lewis and his experience in the Civil Rights movement. Presenting the story in graphic novel format is a powerful way to help it reach young readers to inform and inspire. The writing is engaging and accessible, accompanied by realistic black-and-white illustrations which convey dramatic action and emotion, creating a rich historical record. Recommended for teens and adults." - Julie B., Hillsboro Public Library
The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead
"Whitehead’s novel takes place at a fictitious Florida reform school Nickel Academy. Nickel is based on the real-life Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys, a hellish torture prison that masqueraded as a reform school. The main character, Elwood Curtis, is sent to Nickel after he accepts a ride in a stolen car. Elwood believes that his hard work and honesty will set him free, but his diligence and rule-following are not enough. The game is rigged against him and he must learn this difficult lesson while he negotiates the cruel and arbitrary world into which he has been thrust.
