The Waters of North Carolina Community Art Show Invitation
June 1 – August 15
This summer experience the oceans possibilities right here in North Carolina. Share with the library any 2D art from which showcases North Carolina waterfalls, creeks, streams, lakes, or more! You may bring in original art or submit digital images to learninglab@hickorync.gov. Art will be accepted starting May 9th and may be submitted through the duration of the Summer Learning Program. Please scan images at 300 dpi. If you need help scanning your work, visit us at the library and we will be glad to help you. No art work will be returned. Include your name, age, and title/subject on your image with your submission to be displayed. You may also submit anonymously. This is not a competition. This is a community art show. Hickory Parks and Recreation and the Hickory Public Library have joined together to bring you Hickory’s newest hiking club! Hiking is for everyone and this program is open to all ages and experience levels. Wear sneakers or hiking books and bring water, snacks, poles, or anything else you may need. Caregiver and child are invited to learn the art of soap carving as we create ocean animals from soap.
This program is recommended for youth ages 7-12. Caregiver is asked to stay in program and participate in carving. Registration required. Please register for child only.

Prehistoric Adventure
Sat. | June 25 | 11am

Travel back in time to explore ancient creatures. Discover how they looked, lived, and interacted with each other by observing real fossils.  Then dig into mini fossil material from the Carolina coast to test your paleontology skills & keep what you find! Registration is required. Presented by the Schiele Museum of Natural History.

Squid Dissection with Catawba Science Center

Explore the insides of a squid in this hands-on dissection program led by staff from the Catawba Science Center. Kids 10 and up will be partnered to work on the dissection together as they examine the internal structures, identify organs, and study their function. For ages 10 & up. Registration required.

Learn simple coding through exploring Ozobot robots, disguised as an Octopus.

Families are invited to decorate their wagons, strollers, bikes and even themselves and join our parade around the SALT Block. Prizes will be awarded and Pelican’s Snowballs will be on hand for sno-cones.
