Winter Reading Bingo Jan 1- Feb 28 | All Ages Join the Hickory Public Library for a fun Winter Reading Bingo challenge. This all-ages bingo game is centered around winter activities, crafts, and of course reading! It’s easy to play! Sign up at the library’s Beanstack page at https://hickorync.beanstack.org/reader365, download a bingo card from Beanstack or pick up one from either branch of the Hickory Public Library, and get ready for a fun bingo game! When you have achieved bingo, visit the library for your prize - a free book from the Library Book Store.

Cosmic Claw Galactic Quest with 4-H Thurs. | Feb. 17 | 4:30 pm Use engineering design to build, and create a model robotic clawThe Hickory Public Library and 4H of Catawba County invite youth to join the Galactic Quest. Galactic Quest explores the history of humans in space, the technology, and resources needed for missions, and the obstacles humans encounter in orbit. These STEM based activities range in topic from physics, engineering, computer science, and space agriculture. Registration is required as space is limited. Ages 10-13. PBML

Knuffle Bunny Sock Craft Sat. | Feb. 19 | 10 am After sharing Mo Willems’ Knuffle Bunny story, kids ages 5 and up can create their own cuddle bunny out of a colorful sock. No sewing required. This program is in celebration of the opening of the Mo Willems We Are Art! Exhibit at Hickory Museum of Art. Register your child online at hickorync.gov/calendar/events/category/library/. Emergency Preparedness for Seniors Mon. | Feb. 21 | 10 am Learn how to be prepared for emergencies from extreme weather, to fire, to power outages. This program will walk you through the steps to be prepared for a small emergency such as a boil water and for evacuation due to fire or extreme weather. Registration is required. PBML

Jazz & the Civil Rights Movement (Virtual) Mon. | Feb. 21 | 2 pm Galen Abdur-Razzaq, jazz flutist and jazz history expert will provide an evening of entertainment and education. Learn about the history of Jazz and its role in the Civil Rights Movement at this program that is part lecture, part musical performance. This is sure to be an event you won’t want to miss! Galen studied at the Berklee College of Music and holds a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts and Education from Rutgers University. He is a riveting speaker who has performed about the history of jazz at colleges and universities for over 30 years. A recording artist, composer, arranger, and educator, his performance portfolio includes such greats as Billy Taylor, Sonny Phillips, Gwen Guthrie, Jimmy Heath, Melba Moore, and Sun Ra.
