Library News
WSPL Budget Vote and Trustee Election
 
The Western Sullivan Public Library will hold its annual vote for
the 2024-2025 budget on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from
2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at our three branches.  
 
In addition to the tax appropriation, voters will be asked to elect two Library Trustees to fill the five-year terms commencing on July 1, 2024.  Petitions nominating candidates for the office of Trustee of the Western Sullivan Public Library are available from the District Clerk at the Sullivan West Elementary School between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. when school is in session.  All petitions must be returned to the District Clerk by 5:00 p.m. on March 18, 2024.
 
An informational meeting will be held Monday, April 8, 2024, 5:00 p.m. at the Delaware Free Branch.  Visit the library or our website WSPLonline.org beginning March 13, 2024 for the library’s Annual Report to the Community and a copy of the proposed budget.
 
Not a registered voter?  Continuous voter registration has been authorized in the office of the District Clerk between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The latest date on which the District Clerk will register voters is April 12, 2024.
 
 
Applications for absentee ballots may be applied for in person at the Office of the District Clerk at least seven days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed, and no later than the day before the vote if the ballot is being picked up.

Both absentee and early mail ballots must be received in the Office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on the day of the vote, April 17, 2024.  Military voters may request an application to register as a qualified voter from the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on March 22, 2024.

Join us for our window project reveal and reception. We are so excited to reveal the new window art for our windows in Callicoon! This project will help beautify the community and create a more vibrant community space.
This project features window art installations created by local artists of all ages, which will be displayed in the windows of the Delaware Free Branch.
This event is free and open to the public.
Stop by any time that evening to see the vision of our project come to life. We will have light refreshments for all! No registration is necessary.

Mark Monday, April 8th, 2024, on your calendar as “Solar Eclipse Day,” for if the weather is fair, you should have no difficulty observing a partial or even total eclipse of the sun from much of North America. In this presentation, we’ll examine the mechanics of what causes eclipses as well as how you can safely observe and enjoy this amazing astronomical event.

An ancient discipline for health, relaxation, longevity, and developing the whole body.
Shibashi is a simple beginner form and is easily learned. This program will introduce this 18-step form and will direct students to various sources for further involvement.
Join local resident and certified Tai Chi instructor Peter Brown in a calm and instructive program. You will be guided through several exercises which can be modified based on ability. Please register for the program, as space is limited.

Another fun opportunity for tweens & teens is happening in tandem with the Tusten Youth Club. We’ll be gathering right off the school bus for a weekly exploration of the fiber arts. First time crafters are welcome to come and learn how to knit, loom or crochet. Return each week as we practice our craft, troubleshoot and share our successes.
