Get in Your Element this Fall with a Library Card from WSPL

September is Library Card Sign-up Month!  What do you use your library card for? Borrowing books, ebooks, and audiobooks, getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time?  Your library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy. All without stretching their budget.

If you do not have your library card yet, or know of someone who doesn't have one, sign up at one of our three branches or fill out the online application here.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.

"STAFF READS"
Spotlight on Kristen
 Love, Pamela
by Pamela Anderson

What an unexpected treat! I've always appreciated Pamela's seemingly free and genuine spirit, but I'd never imagined the depth of character displayed in her biography. Although she takes the reader through her story, she does so in such a unique fashion. I felt as if I walked alongside her, invited into a sacred space as she told her tale. She spoke of her challenges through life in lessons and blessings; rather than harping on the struggles, she spoke of the growth she was blessed with through them. I found the story to be told in a way that was enduringly kind, extremely thoughtful, and tenderly considerate. Her generous, expansive, wild, and creative spirit comes through in her story, catapulting the reader into a new plane of existence and reminding not to judge a book by its cover.

What better time than now to write your story!? Welcome back Penelope Ghartey for another Memoir Writing Workshop. This is a workshop in which we will share our writings on a weekly basis, so please come prepared if possible.
First time Memoirists will enjoy exercises to help them find memoir-worthy stories. They’ll learn to evaluate and group these stories to find a structure, narrative thread, or theme. Finally, they’ll produce a stand-alone mini-memoir.

Intermediate Memoirists will evaluate the pieces they have written to find common characters, time frames, or themes. Study different ways of integrating the stories, such as flashbacks, alternate chapters, or narrative voice. Finally, begin a trial manuscript incorporating one or more of the ways you plan to structure the memoir.
