Virtual Artist of the Month: Michael Garber For the month of September, the Piermont Library presents our first Virtual Artist of the Month, Michael Garber with his online exhibition Photo Montage: Four Dimensions of Nature. Michael Garber, a landscape, nature, and portrait photographer, is intrigued by the subjectivity of light and is drawn to objects as they are transformed in changing light. He employs light as a design element in shaping and capturing his images. Dramatic scenes attract his attention especially where color and texture add depth and intensity. He has a special affinity for clouds with their visual power. He has traveled extensively to photograph diverse landscapes in their unique light.

Virtual Movie Screening and Discussion: Piermont Paper Mill Tuesday, September 22nd, 4 - 5 p.m. Join us for a virtual screening of Piermont's Papermill! After the screening, we will have a Q & A and discussion with the film's creators, the Piermont Historical Society. Before the condominiums, Piermont’s Pier was home to a Papermill that dominated the village landscape for over eight decades. The factory had a major impact on the village and its residents for generations. Narrated by Grammy award winning Tom Chapin, this documentary features interviews from factory workers, stories from residents who grew up in the shadow of the paper mill and rare photos of the inside of the factory. The Light in Ordinary Days: New Paintings by Dan Lukens continues to be on display in our gallery spaces. We look forward to the day we can once again have in-person programming and celebrate his art with a reception. From the artist..... As Emerson wrote, “ Though we travel the world over to find the beautiful, we must carry it with us or we find it not.” The best in our lives, I believe, resides in familiar things and often overlooked places. In a path well traveled, foliage changing with the season, or a face we know, there is a refuge in the sublime light in ordinary days. Shared in these new paintings is an ode to local life and a homage to the ties we carry with us.
