Dear Patrons and Friends of the Pearl River Public Library,
As your library director, I am pleased to share the updates on our ongoing projects:
First, we have completed the geotechnical soil boring process to better understand the soil composition and stability around our building. Carlin-Simpson, a Geotechnical and Environmental Consulting Engineering firm, drilled two boreholes: one inside near the main entry door and another outside adjacent to the entry door. These boreholes will provide essential data for our structural analysis. The final report was forwarded to our structural engineer, Silman, for detailed examination.
In addition, we recently conducted a hazardous materials (Haz/Mat) investigation to ensure the safety and integrity of our building. A representative from ECMS took additional samples from specific areas based on recommendations from a previous report. The inspection confirmed that the windows and the insulation on the chilled water supply and return lines from the water tower did not pose any issues. We received the full report from the Haz/Mat inspection and reviewed proposals for the design and preparation of HazMat specifications, selecting the most economical option. This project was completed in May.
Regarding our site survey, Surveyor Robert Sorace conducted a thorough survey of the site and subsequently provided a revised survey that included topographical lines instead of spot elevations, as requested by our Site/Civil Engineer, Insite. This detailed topographical data is crucial for planning any modifications to the site’s layout and ensuring proper drainage and grading.
Finally, we held a comprehensive meeting with the Building & Grounds Committee, Lothrop, and Calgi to review the 75% completed project drawings. During this meeting, we meticulously examined the drawings page by page to ensure all details were thoroughly addressed and aligned with our project goals. This careful review process is essential for identifying potential issues early and keeping the project on track.
I will continue to keep you updated as we make progress on these important projects. Thank you for your continued support and interest in the future of our library.
