Ulster County Annual Food Fight September 1 - October 19 We won in 2020. Let's do it again! As part of the Great Give Back, Ulster libraries are holding a food collection contest. The common goal is to fill up the shelves of food pantries and to put an end to hunger in our community. We are in it to win it for our community. Accepting donations of non-perishable (and non-expired) food and personal hygiene products. All donations will go to Helping Hands Food Pantry in Gardiner.

Writing Workshop with Laurence Carr - Writing the Short Form: Flash Fiction, Micro-Essays, Prose Poems and Memoirs Meets first Saturdays (starting October 5) 12:30 - 1:45 PM Award winning author and publisher, Laurence Carr, will conduct writing workshops concentrating on short forms. Throughout these sessions, writers will gather ideas and subject matter to create pieces of less that 600 words in length. Free-writes from prompts will be given in each session. Pieces will be drafted into finished works over the course of the workshops. Part of each class will also be devoted to specific elements of creative writing: structure, character, world of story, exposition, and other components. Discussions will continue about publishing possibilities. Writers can attend one or more sessions depending upon their availability.

Community ReikiFirst Sundays noon - 2 PM First come, first served. Free 20 minute reiki sessions. Recipients sit in a chair or lie on a comfortable table, clothed, while the practitioner lightly places hands on or above the recipient. The effect is of peace and deep rest for the recipient. HV Community Reiki has been providing Reiki sessions at the Gardiner Library since 2017.

La AlegrĂa Art Show by Annie O'Neill October 4 through December 2 Artist reception: Saturday, October 19 2 - 4 PM Mexican folk art, San Blas molas with their complex, colorful, appliquĂ©d designs, embroidered folk textiles and ceramics, and the stirrings of nature in the form of birds, fish, snakes, turtles, and other creatures, and how they relate to each other and to us (the resonance between nature and culture) underpins Annie O’Neill’s paintings and her work in general. Playfulness and vibrancy, other major players in her work, are expressed through her formal compositions, patterns, and riotous colors.

TAB participants help the library with upcoming events and programs, and can create their own programming too. Volunteering time at the library can be used to fulfill community service hours for Honor Society, school/community responsibilities where public service hours are required, or on job and college resumes.

Dr. Ornella Lepri Mazzuca is a native speaker of Italian and has been facilitating the conversational class at the Gardiner Library since 2016. She graduated from the University of Urbino, Italy, with a Doctorate in English, French and Italian. She later earned an MA in Spanish and Linguistics and a PhD in Spanish Literature from the University at Albany.
