Ulster County Annual Food Fight
September 1 - October 19
We won in 2020. Let's do it again! As part of the Great Give Back, Ulster libraries are holding a food collection contest. The common goal is to fill up the shelves of food pantries and to put an end to hunger in our community. We are in it to win it for our community. Accepting donations of non-perishable (and non-expired) food and personal hygiene products. All donations will go to Helping Hands Food Pantry in Gardiner. |

Photographs are from his assignment to cover events for the Mid-Hudson Philharmonic, while on assignment for the Information Office at SUNY New Paltz as well as a few photos he took in New York City, where he lived and worked as a professional photographer in the late sixties and early seventies. |

Preserving Summer Flowers with Jessica Williams

Did you know you can use your microwave to dehydrate flowers and an iron to press them? We'll consider these methods as well as more traditional approaches to preserving the beauty of summer. Then we'll use pressed flowers to create a lovely image of a delicate vase overflowing with flowers, use it as a wonderful birthday card or display it! Jessica Williams is a chef, florist and artist who is happiest mucking about in her garden. Writing Workshop with Laurence Carr - Writing the Short Form: Flash Fiction, Micro-Essays, Prose Poems and Memoirs
Meets first Saturdays (starting in October)
12:30 - 1:45 PM Award winning author and publisher, Laurence Carr, will conduct writing workshops concentrating on short forms. Throughout these sessions, writers will gather ideas and subject matter to create pieces of less that 600 words in length. Free-writes from prompts will be given in each session. Pieces will be drafted into finished works over the course of the workshops. Part of each class will also be devoted to specific elements of creative writing: structure, character, world of story, exposition, and other components. Discussions will continue about publishing possibilities. Writers can attend one or more sessions depending upon their availability.

Gardiner Library children’s librarian, Amy Laber (“Miss Amy”) has been teaching early childhood music classes throughout the Hudson Valley for over 20 years. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in both Psychology and Music Therapy and has also received NYS Certification in Music K-12.

Summer is a great time to fulfill community service hours. TAB participants help the library with upcoming events and programs, and can create their own programming too.
Volunteering time at the library can be used to fulfill community service hours for Honor Society, school/community responsibilities where public service hours are required, or on job and college resumes.
