"Plastics Free July" Hybrid PresentationWednesday, June 29 6:30 PM Register here. Organized by Gardiner's Environmental Conservation Committee. How long could you go without using any plastic at all? This class will explain the impact of plastic pollution from ecological, social, and environmental issues, and how we can drastically reduce the amount of single-use disposable plastics we use on a daily basis. Angelina Brandt, Director of Sustainability and Tanesia White, Recycling Educator, who together make up the Recycling Outreach Team at Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency will present.

Summer Herbal Series (Part 1) with Ashley Sapir Lathrop Wednesday, July 20 6:30 - 8 PM Register here for Part 1 Register here for Part 2 on August 17 Recommended, but not necessary, to sign up for both classes. In this workshop we will begin out of doors meeting some local plants near the library and on the rail trail. Then we will gather to discuss the benefits of specific plants for the season. Ashley will teach you about some of her favorite summer plants for staying cool, calm and grounded. You will create a cooling herbal tea blend (infusion) and an herbal oil to take home with you. Creating herbal oil is the first step in making a salve, which will happen in the August class (learn more about Part 2 here). Ashley has been a practicing herbalist for over twenty years. She blends traditional herbal wisdom with her love of integrative and evidence based medicine. All materials and tools needed to complete the project are included and are the participants to keep. Kits include: 1 large, 13x14 inch, sturdy, 100% wool tote, 3 colors of roving, 5 yards of pencil roving,1 deluxe tool kit in a protective hard case with 6 felting needles, a wooden etui (doubles as a needle grip), finger guards, scissors, an aw and large needle felting mat.

Leaf-Shaped Willow Basket Making Workshop with Jessica Clark Wednesday, August 3 5:30 - 8:30 PM Cost: $20 for materials Register here. In this class students will use traditional rib basketry techniques to weave a beautiful and functional leaf-shaped tray. This is a great introduction to the world of willow weaving and is a fun way to discover the strength and diversity of the willow plant. Our shallow trays will measure approximately 18" long by 6" wide. Strong hands are a must for this class. Jes Clark is owner and operator of Willow Vale Farm where they grow willow to weave traditional and contemporary functional pieces. Since 2018 they have taught new and intermediate weavers the wonders of willow. All of the willow is grown without pesticides using regenerative practices.

Beginner Mah Jongg Class 6 Wednesdays from June 22 - July 27 1 - 3 PM Registration required here and for each week you want to attend. After the series is complete, weekly meet-ups will continue for all levels. This basic class is for students who have never played before OR for students who haven’t played for quite some time and need a refresher course.
Diane Lauchaire is a retired first grade teacher and has been playing Mah Jongg for 5 years. Diane helped start the Mah Jongg group at the Wallkill Public Library.
