Crankies are illustrated scrolls that are cranked from one side to the other in a wooden puppet theater, accompanied by songs and stories. Known as moving panoramas in the 19th century, this once popular entertainment has made a resurgence in the past 15 years, enchanting children and adults alike. A beloved crankie artist and musician from Vermont, Brendan Taaffe has been sharing crankies for a decade and music for longer than that. He brings traditional folk tales, songs, and even a nonsense poem by Edward Lear.

She graduated from the University of Urbino, Italy, with a Doctorate in English, French and Italian. She later earned an MA in Spanish and Linguistics and a PhD in Spanish Literature.

Captured Energy Series by Meadow Through March 28 In the Captured Energy Series of paintings, drawings, prints and collages Meadow seizes the essence of the moment to preserve its magic and vitality, much the same way a vignette from a play, or single frame of a movie captures the impression of the instant. Vibrant color, light, space and movement characterize this work. Layers of color and patterns are collaged together building a crescendo of motion and intensity. Items accepted include: Oral care products (empty toothpaste tubes, toothbrushes, floss containers), corks, empty ink cartridges, empty pens/highlighters/markers, caps and pencils (mechanical and wooden), razors and outer packaging and crayons.

Come by, browse and support the library at the same time. Books on display now include Beverly Cleary, CS Lewis, James Howe, Harry Potter and tons of gardening books. It's a treasure hunt, you never know what you might find!
