Virtual Talk: Local History Series: Women and the D&H Canal with Bill Merchant Monday, March 27 D&H Canal Historian Bill Merchant has conducted extensive research on the plight of the many Marginalized Peoples who comprised the vast majority of the Canal's workforce. Although women are the most ignored by history, this presentation relates how women contributed to its immense success, using stories from primary sources and many period images. Bill Merchant is the Deputy Director for Collections, Historian and Curator of the D&H Canal Historical Society, Chair of the D&H Transportation Heritage Council, and Secretary and Chair of Collections at the Century House Historical Society.

Memoir Writing Workshop with Helena Rho Thursdays, March 23, 30 and April 6 5:00 - 6:30 PM Free. Go here more information to and to register. Registration required.In this workshop, learn how a memoir comes into being. Week One: Structure--beginnings and endings and how to build the scaffolding of a memoir. Week Two: Voice and Character--how to create one's voice on the page and how to write other characters. Week Three: Place and Setting--how to write vividly about a place like it is a character because where the memoir takes place matters. Helena Rho is a three-time Pushcart Prize nominated writer. Her work has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, Slate, Fourth Genre, 805 Lit + Art, among other places. Her memoir, American Seoul (Little A, 2022), was included in BuzzFeed's "16 Memoirs by AAPI Authors to Add to Your Reading List."

Beekeeping and Honeybees Presentation with Robert RawlukSaturday, April 1 2 - 3 PM Get a brief history of beekeeping, methods, and equipment used in the past and present. See and understand the honey collection process, and why it is healthier to eat locally produced honey. Observe live honeybees at work in a safe environment. Bob Rawluck is the President of the Ulster County Beekeeper Association, and will be happy to answer questions regarding the club, and its mission.

Financial Planning Series: All You Need to Know to Set Up (or update) the Perfect Estate Plans with David Sterman If you have yet to prepare your estate plans (or haven't given them a close look in many years), it's time to create (or update) the key documents you'll need to ensure your legacy goals are in place. This talk will cover some key points regarding wills, Power of Attorney, healthcare proxy and trusts, with ample time for a helpful Q&A. David Sterman, is a fee-only financial planner with Huguenot Financial Planning, providing unbiased advice without conflicts of interest. David is also a financial journalist, helping to shed light on a range of consumer financial topics. He is based in Gardiner, NY.

Four nations face off as students assume roles of Prime Ministers, Tribal Leaders, UN Officials, Arms Dealers, and more. The object is to achieve world peace and global prosperity by solving 50 interlocking economic, social, political, and environmental crises - hurricanes, refugees, civil revolt, pandemic, famine, and global warming – all while under the threat of imminent war. Catharine Baldwin is an Independent Advanced Facilitator of The World Peace Game, one of 18 people fully certified to run a World Peace Game in any setting. She has an MS in education and a NYS certification. She taught for 30 years at The Hudson School.

Community Reiki: Individual Reiki SessionsMeets first Sundays 12 - 2 PM 20 minute sessions. First come, first served. COVID protocols followed. Reiki is both the energy of the universe and the Japanese system of sharing this energy with others. Recipients sit in a chair or lie on a comfortable table, clothed, while the practitioner lightly places hands on or above the recipient. The effect is of peace and deep rest for the recipient.
H.V. Community Reiki practitioners possess multiple certifications that can include Reiki I and II as well as Master level certifications in various styles including Usui/Tibetan, Komyo, Karuna, and Animal Reiki. HV Community Reiki has been providing Reiki sessions at the Gardiner Library since 2017.

Paul Bracey is a photographer from north east Pennsylvania who began taking pictures as an offshoot of his interest in drawing and painting.
An avid outdoor adventurer, he has long pursued rock climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering, traveling to many destinations which have provided amazing opportunities for interesting and expressive photographic images.
Today, he makes use of a wide range of equipment and techniques and uses social media to share his work with a broader audience. His goal is to share the beauty of nature and art through engaging images, real or imagined, in the hope of showing viewer’s a new way of seeing things.
