It is an exploration of personal history and an examination of where to place those reflections in present day life. We are a compilation of our experiences and while looking back might be unsettling, ultimately it enriches who we are.
Mala Hoffman is a poet and educator who lives in Gardiner. Her work has appeared in the Village Voice, Chronogram, Awosting Alchemy, Literary Gazette and Edna, among others. Her poetry collections include Half Moon Over Midnight, A Year of Wednesdays and Becoming Bubbe.

Guitar 1 - Small Group Guitar Classes for Kids 5-7 Yrs. Wednesdays 4:30-5:00 PM $85 for 4-week series. Registration for all 4 weeks is required. Space is limited to 5 students per session. No guitar is needed for this series! Classroom guitars are now provided through a generous donation by the Neal Casal Music Foundation. No experience required. Small group guitar lessons with Amy Laber (Gardiner Library’s “Miss Amy”). Beginner guitar lessons for young children with a gentle, playful approach. We will learn the parts of a guitar, and explore basic musical concepts such as beat, rhythm and pitch. Students will approach learning individual notes on the guitar and simple chords.

The focus of this series is to get young children interested and excited about learning to play guitar and to prepare for private lessons as they grow.

Babysitting 101 with Denise Schirmer Saturday, January 28 12:30 - 3:30 Ages 11 and older. Please bring a notebook, pen(cil)s, lunch and/or snack Participants will be introduced to the world of babysitting by learning about the responsibilities of the sitter as well as of the parents of the children they are sitting for, emergencies and safety, infant care, playing, and how to secure a babysitting job. All participants will receive a certificate of completion. Denise has been certified to teach this class since 1980. She was the Assistant Superintendent of the Parks and Recreation Department for the Town of Somers and a Middle School substitute teacher.

Historical Wargaming Event with HMGA Next Gen, Inc Saturday, February 4 10 - 3 PM Ages 10-18 This month play WWI air combat with biplanes and triplanes using the Wings of Glory rule system, a High Seas adventure with plundering pirate sloops and British frigates trying to stop them using the Limey’s and Slimey’s Pirate rule system and The Argonne Forest in 1918, a German and American fight in the trenches during the last months of WWI using modified Trench Wars rules.
Gamers will play strategy based, miniatures games on three dimensional boards with painted figures, terrain, and features reminiscent of some famous conflicts in history. Games will be facilitated by experts from HMGS Next Gen, Inc who understand the best ways to create scenarios that will be both challenging and rewarding for the players.
