RCLS Battle of the Books 2022
Sunday, August 28 || 12pm-4pm
Location details to follow

If you love a fast-paced quiz show, this is the event for you!  Be a part of the audience for this fun competition...

Battle of the Books is a college bowl-type program for teens entering 6th through the 12th grade. Participants in the RCLS program read eight preselected titles and then participate in trivia battles based on the books at a Regional Battle. The goal of the program is to promote a love of reading in teens, to expose them to titles and authors that they might not encounter otherwise, to encourage them to think of their local public library as a resource for entertainment and to inspire teamwork and good sportsmanship in an atmosphere of friendly competition.

Community News
Wolf Lake Neighbors Support Library

Congratulations to Mamakating Library on their award of a
$4,000 grant received from their neighbors at Wolf Lake!

The grant will enable the library to offer several new programs this summer, supporting three programmatic series developed to address the expressed interests and needs in the Mamakating community. These include a children’s book club and reading enrichment classes  to help prevent the "summer slide" in literary skills; a beginning level Spanish/English storytime; and a basic technology series for adults. This generous grant helps the library achieve its literacy goals in the areas of reading, new language learning, and technology. In particular, the children's programs have been created to address the damage COVID-19 has done to the traditional educational process. Together with the adult technology series, these programs are designed to create diverse opportunities for children and adults.

Funding for these programs was made possible through the efforts of The Wolf Lake Neighbors Foundation, Inc.,
homeowners at nearby Wolf Lake, engaged in philanthropic activities in the towns of Mamakating and Thompson.

the library environment through a culturally responsive lens.
NOTE: Registration confirmation for this series is dependent upon the
participants and their supervisors signing a Memo of Understanding
