2024 Banned Books Symposium:
Proactive, Reactive, Supportive
Saturday, May 4, 2024 ~ 8:30 am – 1:00 pm
Dutchess BOCES Conference Center 
Poughkeepsie, NY
 
This half-day conference will feature presentations
on banned and challenged books and programs. 
 Cost to attend $25. 
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.  
Questions regarding the Symposium and Scholarships available 
for the event may be posed to Jen Park,
RCLS Government Relations Specialist, at jen@rcls.org 
Attendance for this conference will result in 4 hours of continuing education credit for library staff and trustees.

Guide to Understanding and Requesting Funding Through the NYS Legislature (online)
Tuesday, March 26, 2024 ~ 11:00am - 12:30pm
Join RCLS and Christie Foster to learn about the different avenues for discretionary funding that your legislative representatives have the ability to access through the New York State Legislature.  Different programs, eligibility, timing, and how to best position your library to receive extra funding will be reviewed.
1.5 hours Continuing Education credit for Library Staff

Coming Down to Storytime! A Family Storytime Workshop (In-Person)
Wednesday, April 17, 2024 ~ 10:00am - 12:30pm
RCLSHQ Main Meeting Room, RCLS Headquarters 619 Rte 17M, Middletown
Come learn and discuss the pros and cons of having a family style storytime. Specific points covered will be how to select books and themes for a wider age range, resources you can use to keep disruptive children (and parents) engaged, and discovering tools and tangible items that will assist you in creating a great early literacy environment for your young patrons and their families.
2.5 hours Continuing Education credit for Library Staff

RCLS Construction Aid Workshop -
Review of Eligible Projects (In-Person)
Friday, April 19, 2024 ~ 10:30am - 12:00pm
RCLSHQ Main Meeting Room, RCLS Headquarters 619 Rte 17M, Middletown
 
An in-depth discussion on what types of projects are eligible for the New York State Public Library Construction Aid program.  Stephen Hoefer, Chief Financial Officer, will review previously funded projects, the new program timeline, new program developments.  A Q&A session will take place at the end.
[Note: The due date for applications for 2024 is August 1st.]
2 hours Continuing Education credit for library staff
 (Workshop does not apply towards Trustee Education credit) 
 
There is an RCLS Construction Aid Mandatory Workshop for applicants scheduled for June 14, 2024.

Resilient Communities in a Changing Climate: The Library as Hub
Cohort Series
This cohort program includes four sessions designed to facilitate participants’ understanding of climate resilience needs and opportunities at and around their locations, and the participatory approaches to working with local stakeholder partners to capture these opportunities.
Teams from individual libraries are encouraged to attend.
2 hours of Continuing Education credit/session.
