National Friends of Libraries Week Oct. 20-26, 2024

The 19th annual National Friends of Libraries Week, presented by United for Libraries, is being held Oct. 20-26, 2024. Use the time to creatively promote your group in the community, to raise awareness, and to promote membership. This is also an excellent opportunity for your library and Board of Trustees to recognize the Friends for their help and support of the library. United for Libraries provides free resources and graphics, and the ALA Store offers National Friends of Libraries Week items, including t-shirts, tote bags, stickers, and mugs.

Tomkins Cove Public Library
150th Anniversary Celebration

Over 100 celebrants enjoyed a sunny September afternoon to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Tomkins Cove Public Library.  Attendees included current and former residents, prior students and teachers from when the building served as a school, dignitaries, and supporters of all ages.  Calvin Tomkins (1793-1890), founder of the Library, made a 'guest appearance' via costumed re-enactor to speak about the history of both the town and the library.  TCPL was awarded a Proclamation from NYS Assemblymember Chris Eachus, and a Certificate of Recognition from NYS Senator Pete Harckham.
A wonderful time was had by all as this important milestone
was honored - appreciation of the library and reverence
for its history were on full display!
