Cobourg & District Sports Hall of Fame Donates $5,000 to Cobourg Public LibraryThe Cobourg & District Sports Hall of Fame has utilized the collection of newspapers on microfilm to preserve the history of athletics in the Cobourg area since the early 1800's. In the summer of 2022, one of the Library's two digital microfilm readers failed, and the replacement cost was outside of the Library's budget. As the equipment is vital to the work of the Hall of Fame, and in recognition of the contribution of the Library in provision of local history, a commitment of $5,000 was made towards the purchase. With this commitment, the Library moved forward with the replacement. The new reader is available in the Local History Room for everyone to use. Thank you!

Decodable Books - now available Thanks to a grant from the International Dyslexia Association, the library is pleased to offer a selection of decodable readers for the children’s collection. Unlike the commonly-used leveled reader, decodable books are made to teach letter sounds and help children learn to “decode” what they’re reading without guessing. These readers can be used by anyone, but are particularly helpful in providing reading practice for readers with dyslexia. Why not check these out the next time you’re in the Library, or visit the International Dyslexia Association’s website (www.idaontario.ca) for more reading resources.
