Borrow & Play! Instrument Lending Library
Have you always wanted to try to play guitar or ukulele?
Starting on Monday, June 6th - you can borrow one from the Cobourg Library!
We have 2 adult guitars, 1 youth guitar, 1 adult ukulele and
1 youth ukulele available on a first-come first-served basis. 
Each instrument comes in a case, with a strap, picks and tuner.
Loan period: 3 weeks (no holds, no renewals). 
Kids & Youth Summer Reading Club
June 24 to August 19 - All branches
Venture into magical realms where fantastic creatures roam and anything can (and will) happen.
Sign-up with the library's Summer Reading Club and visit the library every week from June 24th to August 19th to: 
  • Add a mystical creature to storyland by sharing with us what you've read 
  • Be enchanted with self-directed activities in the library 
  • Pick up a Take & Make Kit to take home

It's free to sign-up and participate! Join our unicorns, dragons and other mythical creatures for a fun filled summer of free programs, activities, crafts and more!  Read throughout the summer for a chance to win prizes, including a grand prize!

Virtual French Reading Club on Zoom - with the Cobourg Library and U+ Education
Every Other Wednesday - starting June 15th

Join us every other week for our live French program from the comfort of your home! This virtual program will be held over Zoom on a bi-weekly basis and will be led by professional language instructors. Together, we will practice our French reading and comprehension skills in a group setting by reading along to French books.  Free virtual program on Zoom.

Quest for the Missing Mythical Creatures
Monday, June 27th to Saturday, July 9th
Kids! Journey to the enchanted Youth Collection at the Cobourg, Bewdley or Gores Landing Library branches for your quest to begin. There are 12 missing mythical creatures from our library books. Library staff need your help to find them all so they can be placed back into their stories.
If your quest is successful, you will win a prize!

Come join musical Storyteller and Singer-songwriter Heather Whaley in telling suspenseful, dramatic, yet hilarious stories of clever characters tricking monsters and villains out of being troublemakers! Lots of fun participation, singing, and chants! 
This is a drop-in program, while space is available (Rotary Room can accommodate up to 75 audience members). Note that the audience will sit on the floor for the 1-hour performance.

 The Guinness Book of World Records
holds the record for being the book
most often stolen from public libraries.
 
One of the most overdue library books
in the world was returned after 122 years!
The book loaned was Charles Darwin’s “Insectivorous Plants”

Friendly Reminder Pre-Overdue Email
Can you remember when your items are due?
Would you like to save on fines, and possibly never have overdue items again?  Of course you would!
To sign up, simply provide a valid email address for staff to add to your membership.  Then you will receive an email 3-days before an item is due, so you have time to renew it (if no one is waiting) or bring it back to the Library.  Sign up today!

Once you have made your selection, you can check them out at the desk just like any other library materials - only there will be no due date - and they are yours to keep or share.
When you harvest in the fall, we would be happy to receive a donation of seeds to add back into our Library.

Renewing your Library card just got easier!
Renew your membership by phone, online or in-person
If you live in Cobourg, Hamilton Township or the Municipality of Port Hope you can now renew your membership online, over the phone or in person for 3 years!  Once staff verify or update your contact information, your membership will be valid for 3 years.   
Not sure when your membership will expire?  Ask staff - or check the "My Account" section on the Cobourg Library App.
This change will not affect Non-Resident, Visitor, Computer-Use or E-Card memberships.

We are proud to be a distribution and donation point for The Period Promise which is a collaborative effort between United Way and Thrive Northumberland to help eliminate period poverty. If you're interested in donating period products or are in need, please talk to staff or head to one of our washrooms.
You can drop off your period product donations to our Cobourg Branch.  
Led locally by Thrive Northumberland and Northumberland United Way. Each donation will be used to provide access to period products throughout Northumberland.
