Collection Feature Thanks to a grant from the International Dyslexia Association, the library has ordered a selection of decodable readers for the children’s collection. Unlike the commonly-used leveled reader, decodable books are made to teach letter sounds and help children learn to “decode” what they’re reading without guessing. These readers can be used by anyone, but are particularly helpful in providing reading practice for readers with dyslexia. Why not check these out the next time you’re in the Library, or visit the International Dyslexia Association’s website ( www.idaontario.ca) for more reading resources.

October is Canadian Library Month! During this month, libraries and library partners across Canada raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in the lives of people in Canada. Our Library has added over 800 new memberships, checked out over 100,000 items, and welcomed over 40,000 patrons through our doors this year. In Ontario, the first week of October features First Nations Public Library Week (October 3-7), and the third week of October is Ontario Public Library Week (October 16-22).
