We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help maintain and beautify the Cobourg Public Library garden from June to September. What You'll Do: Weed and water the garden beds Assist in planting and maintaining flowers and vegetables Help create a welcoming and vibrant outdoor space for our community to enjoy Why Volunteer With Us: Gain valuable gardening experience and skills. Make a meaningful impact in beautifying our community space. Meet like-minded individuals and be part of a supportive team. Enjoy the outdoors & contribute to a greener environment. Seed Library is now Open! - All LocationsNew to gardening? Looking for something new to plant? We have over 4,000 packages of seeds ready for you to borrow from any of our branch locations. There are vegetables, flowers, fruit and herb seeds. Browse through the drawers and choose your seeds - then visit the check out desk and let us know how many you borrowed so we can track how many are checked out. Borrow - Grow - Share! Whether your research is local or afar, drop by and speak with members of the Lakeshore Genealogical Society, Cobourg and District Historical Society or staff of the Cobourg Library to direct you to the resources you will need. 1:30 p.m. - Join us for a special presentation (in person or register to attend by Zoom) by Robert J. Pearce (M.A., PhD.) on "The Rice Lake Trading Post".Archaeologist, Dr. Robert Pearce will tell us about the history of the Rice Lake Trading Post, established in 1796 at the mouth of the Otonabee River. Learn about the historical and genealogical aspects of the surrounding region in the 1800's; The American Revolution; The War of 1812; The North West Company; The Mackenzie Rebellion; The families of Joseph & Lawrence Herkimer; Their nephew Captain Charles Anderson and his family; and Joseph and Rachel Harris. Closely tied to this story and its people is the formation and growth of the Rice Lake Reserve (Hiawatha First Nation) and Otonabee Township in Upper Canada. To sign up, simply provide a valid email address for staff to add to your membership. Period Promise - Help end period poverty We are proud to be a distribution and donation point for The Period Promise which is a collaborative effort between United Way and Thrive Northumberland to help eliminate period poverty. If you're interested in donating period products or are in need, please talk to staff or head to one of our washrooms. You can drop off your period product donations to our Cobourg Branch. Led locally by Thrive Northumberland and Northumberland United Way. Each donation will be used to provide access to period products throughout Northumberland.
