Adult Programs

Holiday Sing-Along for Shelter

Saturday, December 16, 10:30am-12pm

Bring your voice, friends, and optional musical instruments to sing and play along. Seasonal songs selected from The Daily Ukulele will be projected on a screen for easy reading. Come join in the holiday fun!


Donations will be gratefully accepted to benefit the Interfaith Winter Shelter. Hosted by the Ukulele Strum Group.

Far Out Film Discussion: Fanny and Alexander

Wednesday, December 20, 6:30-8pm

Far Out Film Discussion functions like a book club - watch the film on your own and gather on the first and third Wednesdays to discuss.


Join us in the Community room to discuss the 5-hour television version of the 1982 family drama Fanny and Alexander by Ingmar Bergman. Copies of the DVD will be available in the Arts & Music department a couple weeks before we meet.

Job Readiness Workshop: Resumes That Rock (Hybrid)

Wednesday, December 27, 1:30-2:45pm

Learn about three types of resumes and which one will market you best; how to add value with accomplishment statements; and how to make your resume look professional. During this workshop we will teach you the best practices for resume writing and how to make yours rock. Resume examples and a handout will be available for viewing and saving for future reference.

Hospice Lecture Series – From Start to Finish, Understanding Home Health Care (Hybrid)

Making the Right Choice. Learn the Options for Home Health Care.

When facing serious illness, understanding your healthcare options can be confusing and overwhelming. Trying to understand the differences between VNA, Palliative Care, and Hospice can lead to many questions. We will break down what each service is while discussing the importance of advance care planning so that you are in control of your own care. Presented by Cooley Dickinson VNA & Hospice.

Drop-In Tech Help

Mondays and Fridays, 4-5:30pm

Tuesdays, 2-3:30pm

Do you need a little help using a computer or tech device? Come to a drop-in tech help session! Bring your device, or use one of the library's computers, to have your questions answered by a knowledgeable volunteer.

Teen Programs

Teen Gaming Lounge

Tuesday, December 19, 4-6pm

Every Tuesday, teens ages 12+ are invited to play our Nintendo Switch in the YA Room! We'll have enough controllers for 8 players at a time. Challenge your friends to a Mario Kart race, try out new games, and meet fellow gamers!


This program is for teens only; we have a separate game time for players under the age of 12.

Children's Programs

LEGO Club!
Monday, December 18, 3:30-4:30pm

We've got bricks, baseplates and minifigs - now all we need is you! Join us on Mondays at 3:30 in the Community Room. Pick a design challenge out of the bowl or simply build a creation of your own choosing. This program is great for ages 4+.

Middle Grade Book Club: The Swifts: A Dictionary of Scoundrels by Beth Lincoln (Virtual)
Monday, December 18, 4-5pm

Join us on Zoom to discuss this month's book, for ages 9-14. Email childrens@forbeslibrary.org to register and receive the Zoom meeting link!

Monthly Family Game Time with Northampton Public School's Early Childhood Center
Tuesday, December 19, 4-5pm

Drop in to play games and meet other families! Games are a great way to build communication skills, problem-solving, and brain development. It's also an enjoyable way to promote family time.

Dungeons & Dragons Club for Kids
Thursday, December 21, 3:45-5:15pm

Calling all young adventurers! We'll be hosting Dungeons & Dragons campaigns every other Thursday at 3:45. D&D is a great way for kids to practice collaboration, strategy, and storytelling, and we welcome participants of all experience levels. 


This program is for kids ages 9+, and is limited to six participants per session. Registration required; call the Children's Desk at 413-587-1010 or visit us in person to sign up.

How to Draw Pokémon: Presented by Pop Up Art School
Friday, December 29, 11am-12:30pm

Learn how to draw your favorite Pokémon characters including Pikachu! Pop Up Art School will show you how to draw step-by-step using basic shapes and easy to follow instructions. 


Registration required! This event is limited to 15 people. For ages 7 to 12.

Storytimes

  • Baby Storytime: Tuesday, December 19, 10-11am. Join us for stories, songs, and puppets. We'll do a 20-minute storytime together, then put out toys for free play and social time. For babies under 18 months and their caregivers.

  • Bilingual Storytime/Libros y canciones: Wednesday, December 20, 10:30-11am. 

    Sing songs and read books in English and Spanish! This event is best suited for children ages 1.5-3. / ¡Canta canciones y lee libros en ingles y español! Este evento es apropriado para niños de edades 1.5-3. 

  • Preschool Storytime: Thursday, December 21, 10:30-11:30am. Join us for books, songs, and puppets and participate in an open-ended art activity designed to encourage creativity. Great for ages 3-5.
