Upcoming Events at Forbes Library

CLOSED: Monday, September 4, 2023

Forbes Library will be closed on Monday, September 4, 2023 in observation of Labor Day. We will reopen with usual hours on Tuesday, September 5. Access to thousands of e-books and e-audiobooks as well as powerful research databases are still available from the library's website.

Attention: Crafters!

Forbes Library will have a team in the DoozyDo parade on September 23th at 11 AM. We hope you can join us in crafting, making music, and marching on this fun day!

Our theme for our parade team is "Forbes for All'' with a fun aquatic twist: we will create large and small flying fish puppets. Feel free to work with us on some puppets, banners, swirling streamers, props, or see where your inspiration leads you and come craft!

Crafting dates and times will be September 14 and September 21 from 3-6 pm on the Forbes library lawn.

DONATE SUPPLIES: If you would like to donate acrylic paint, fabric, bamboo or other material for long, light poles, please bring it to the Children's Department during library hours.

MARCH WITH US! We will meet at the Northampton Center for the Arts at 33 Hawley St at 10 AM on September 23th. Bring your puppets, noisemakers, and big energy. The march will begin at 11 AM. If you don't want to march, but would like to cheer us on, make yourself comfortable anywhere along the parade route.

Life, Love, Family, and Food: An Author Talk with Lidia Bastianich
Thursday, September 7, 2023, 7 pm

Register to attend this virtual author talk.

You’re invited to an intimate evening with award-winning television host and bestselling author Lidia Bastianich as she talks about her memoir My American Dream: A Life of Love, Family, and Food.

Born in Pula, on the Istrian peninsula, Lidia grew up surrounded by love and security, learning the art of Italian cooking from her beloved grandmother. But when a communist regime annexed Istria, Lidia’s family fled to Trieste, where they spent two years in a refugee camp waiting for visas to enter the United States. When she finally arrived in New York, Lidia soon began working in restaurants, the first step leading to her becoming one of the most revered chefs and businesswomen in the country. Heartwarming, deeply personal, and powerfully inspiring, My American Dream is the story of Lidia’s close-knit family and her dedication and endless passion for food.

As a special bonus (and pre-release!) Lidia will preview and chat about her newest cookbook Lidia's From Our Family Table to Yours: More Than 100 Recipes Made With Love For All Occasions: A Cookbook. In this inviting, deeply personal new cookbook, she shares the dishes she cooks for those she loves the most.
