We're bringing the library to you all summer long. Beginning on June 1, join us for reading challenges, live-streaming events, online programs, and in-person activities. We have something for everyone!

Furry Tales Wednesdays: June 16 to July 21. 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm. This program is for struggling readers who will be paired with licensed therapy dogs and their handlers from Caring Hearts Pet Therapy. For children in grades K-5. Parents of homeschoolers and interested parents, if you have questions, please contact Rita Hunt-Smith at 533-6555 ext. 3707. A selection of suitable reading material is provided for the children to read to the dogs. Studies have shown that this is a successful means of providing practice in a relaxed and comforting atmosphere.

Virtual LEGO Club Fridays: June 18 to July 23. 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Budding architects and LEGO fanatics ages 6+ are welcome to join the library’s virtual LEGO Club. (Please register online for each week your child will attend.) A Zoom link will be provided along with the week’s challenge via email prior to the club meeting. We will share a short story or lesson and then participants will have the opportunity to share the creations they made to meet the weekly challenge.

Stories for Everyone Mondays: June 14 to July 19. 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Ms. Rita will be on Facebook LIVE with a storytime suitable for families and daycares. For children ages 3 to 5. Registration is not required.

Story GardenThursdays: June 17 to July 22. 10:00 am to 10:30 am. A mixed-age, in-person program for the whole family with Ms. Rita in the library’s reading garden. Please register online.

Carry & Craft: Sunday, June 20. 10:00 am to 10:30 am. Combine art and science to make these fun climbing toys. Register online. Pick up your kit at the library. Watch the how-to YouTube video on the day,

 Coloring in the r.g. Tuesday, June 22. 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Bring colored pencils, markers, crayons, snacks, and we will have clip boards, adult coloring sheets, and music. Join us as we chill out in the r.g. Listen to music, and color. Registration is not required.

Open Mic in the r.g. Friday, June 25. 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Come out to the r.g. and enjoy the talents of local musicians. Performances are family friendly. Registration is not required. Email Rita and Aly at programs@hersheylibrary.org if you want to perform.

Crafts in the r.g. Tuesday, June 29. 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Come join us to work on wrapping a protective cover on your charging cords. We will have yarn, but feel free to bring your own. Bring friends, snacks, and your charging cords. Registration is not required.

Terrarium Therapy: Driftwood Planter Workshop Saturday, June 5. 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. At this outdoor class, your experience will include one driftwood piece sourced from the Chesapeake Bay area, succulents, soil, moss, and instruction. We'll discuss best practices for succulent care and maintenance; soil, sun requirements, grooming, watering, and propagation for healthy plants. Please register at Eventbrite.

Lose the Quarantine 15: Library style Mondays: June 7 to August 2. 9:00 am to 10:00 am. (No meeting on July 26.) Get active with library friends in an non-competitive run. Meet Aly under the trees to the left of the library. Bring your running shoes, download the C25K app if you can (not needed), water bottle, towel/mat for stretching, and sun screen. We will stretch before and after. For those who want to we will also do a quick ab workout at the end. Registration is not required. For teens and adults.

Read Stampede Walking GroupTuesdays: June 8 to August 3. 9:00 am to 10 am. (No meeting on July 27.) Meet Aly at the playground at Shank Park. Bring an audio book, music, friends, water bottle and a towel to lay on for post walking stretch. This is a non-competitive, fun, supportive group. Registration is not required. For teens and adults.

Sherry Knowlton Author TalkSaturday, June 12. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Join suspense author Sherry Knowlton via Zoom as she talks about her newest Alexa Williams novel, DEAD on the DELTA, and the research involved in writing this suspense thriller set in Africa. Cassel Vineyards' Fear of Commitment Book GroupThursday, June 24. 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The Fear of Commitment Book Group only reads short fiction. Meet at Cassel Vineyards (80 Shetland Drive, Hershey PA 17033, weather permitting, to discuss the month’s short story. Registration is not required. For anyone age 21 and older.

Mirrors, Windows, and Sliding Glass DoorsSaturday, June 26. 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Please register online for a Family Book Group to discuss: “This Book is Anti-Racist” by Tiffany Jewell. The book will be provided to registered participants in this Zoom program, at which we look forward to welcoming a special guest.

Abe Ovadia: Jazz Guitarist Performs Live Sunday, June 26. 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Join us outside to enjoy listening to Abe Ovadia, whose jazz guitar music features an innovative and emotionally-charged energy that is unrelenting. Bring your lawn chairs and a blanket just in case.
