Children's Librarians Recommend...
Invisible
by Christina Diaz Gonzalez & Gabriela Epstein

Jorge, who goes by George at school, is called to the principal's office because he hasn't finished his community service hours. He is thrust with a disparate group of four other Latine/Latinx kids to clean the cafeteria and the school yard. But, when they discover someone in need they rally together to help. The characters are all unique and believable. The text is presented at times in both Spanish and English in a fresh easy to read format.  Artist Gaby Epstein creates a memorable cast. Colorist Lark Pien provides a gorgeous color palette.  This is a superb graphic novel about fitting in and letting yourself be seen.

Introducing: Conscious Kits
Conscious Kits for Kids is a collection of book discussion kits on racial equity, identity, and justice. These book kits are geared towards preschoolers (ages 3-5) and their parents & caregivers.

Each kit includes three different picture books with discussion guides and a list of resources for the adults reading the books to the children. Four different themed kits are now available on the following topics:
  • Identity and Belonging - available in English or in Spanish
  • Immigration/Journey
  • Social Justice
  • Disability Awareness
Kits can be checked out from any of the five Berkeley Public Library locations. Library card holders can place holds on kits in the online catalog.

Funding for this pilot project was provided by the generous support of the Berkeley Public Library Foundation.
