SPECIAL Update for February 9, 2021
Message from the Director
Hi Everyone,

Very good news for JMPC but also for the Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox & Addington (KFLA) Public Health Region. Tomorrow, we head into the Green Zone and the provincial stay at Home order has been lifted for us.

This does not mean that the Pandemic is over.

It also doesn’t mean that we can stop wearing our face masks and practicing social distancing.

We continue to discourage individuals from coming to visit if they are coming from outside the Green Zone areas.

This is the time for us to be on guard and cautious but also thankful for the progress that we are making!

But it does mean the following:
  • We are back to 2 pre-designated essential caregivers being permitted at a time with no advanced pre-booking required.
  • Visitors can return to the Home if pre-booked in advance. Visit occurs in MacDonald Hall only. (booking occurs using picktime- link later in newsletter)
  • Short Stay absences (non – overnight) can commence again with advanced booking.
  • For overnight (non-medical) absences – 14 days of isolation will apply upon their return to the Home.
  • Essential caregivers can take their resident outside for a walk should they wish to do so or sit out front (Brrrr…bundle up!!) I would encourage you to stay on the heated side walk areas as these would be the safest areas to walk on.
  • Essential caregivers must still only be in their residents room or taking their resident directly outside. Please do not walk throughout the building or hallways. Do not enter the dining rooms.
  • All Essential caregivers and visitors must SHOW a current COVID test result that is no more than 2 weeks old to the screener. (the ministry has set out new guidelines regarding testing requirements that will take effect in March which will be shared later this month)
  • New residents being admitted from another healthcare setting that is also in the Green Zone do not have to go through the 14 days of isolation. (new residents being admitted from the community do still require the 14 days of isolation)
  • We ask that visits be scheduled a day ahead and that weekend requests are completed by Friday at 2pm.
  • All packages continue to require a holding time. For essential caregivers who are taking items that can be wiped down, right to the resident the screeners will look after this for you. Otherwise, they will need to be quarantined as before.
  • All visitors and essential caregivers will be provided with a surgical mask after being screened and must keep it on for the entire duration of their visit. Neither visitors or essential caregivers are to be eating or drinking as this would require removal of their mask.
We are looking forward to seeing you back in the Home. Please give us until 3pm on Wednesday Feb 10 to get the Picktime website set back up and ready for you to book.

You require an appointment. You can pre-book your appointment online here.

in LTC in order to be tested without symptoms.

Please plan to allow yourself at least 1 day grace to ensure you can
maintain a current COVID test.

The link to access your results for this testing is here.

Absences from the Home
Short Term Absences – Non over-night and off the property. Absence can be for social or other reason. Resident will only be screened upon return.

Temporary Absence – Overnight for one or nights. Resident must isolate for 14 days upon return.

Both of these types of absences (short term and temporary) need to be pre-approved by the Home.

NOTE: In the event of an outbreak in the home, or where there is evidence of widespread community transmission as per provincial direction, absences are not permitted except for medical or compassionate reasons.

Medical Absence – for medical reasons including outpatient visits or single night emergency room visits. Homes will not deny a request to leave for medical visit.

For every short term absence, you will be required to have the form completed and approved prior to the absence.

As is the case for booking the window, outdoor and zoom visits, you will need to do this at least 24 hours in advance. All weekend absences will need to be submitted no later than Friday at 2pm.

Manager Point of Contact
for General Inquiries related to COVID restrictions:
In an effort to streamline this process for you, we have attached a form that you can email to a specific manager based on the residents Home area.  Alternatively, if you would prefer, you can phone the appropriate manager and they will assist you.

Essential Caregiver Designation
The Ministry of Long Term Care updated visiting policy requires written documentation that supports the essential caregiver designation. As a result, we have created a PDF form that you can open electronically and fill in the blanks. There are a couple of options to return the form to us via email or fax. Alternatively, we will have hard copies of this document available with the screeners at JMPC where you can complete and drop off to them.

Essential Caregivers must submit this form to be approved as an essential caregiver prior to their visit in order to be permitted into the Home.

Should the resident/POA wish to change an essential caregiver, a new form will need to be submitted in advance.

 Zoom Visits
Zoom is a great way to connect with your loved one.
It allows you to see each other while talking together.

We ask that visits be scheduled a day ahead and that weekend requests are completed by Friday at 2pm. For zoom visits, you will receive a confirmation email first. Then, 1 day prior to your zoom visit you will receive the zoom link emailed to you from the Home.
