Update for the week of January 29, 2021
Message from the Director
Hi Everyone,

WOW! What an incredible week!! At the direction of the Ministry along with KFLA Public Health, LTC residents are receiving their vaccines first. Once more vaccine becomes available, staff and essential caregivers will be given their vaccine.

We were advised of a tentative clinic day early this week for the vaccination clinic for residents. This was to be kept confidential as there was a definite possibility that the clinic would have to be cancelled due to low vaccine supply. Also, the security of the vaccine during transportation from Kingston is critical so we were asked not to advertise the clinic date. We thought we were going to bust with excitement! Finally, on Thursday January 28, the Moderna vaccine arrived along with the KFLA Public Health vaccination team!!!
The preparation for this day was incredible and everyone at JMPC pulled together as 94% of the residents had their vaccine!!! See a video collection here. By 2pm all work had been completed along with all of the inputting of the data collection! There was a small amount of vaccine left at the end of the resident clinic. As it is important for no vaccine to be wasted, we were also able to have 12 staff vaccinated as well.
Residents Council wanted to demonstrate their appreciation of the staff efforts on this special clinic day so had a big card waiting for them along with some cake that said “Thanks for Helping us Kick Covid”.
We unfortunately discovered this week that all of our webforms available on the County’s webpage (ie. Email a resident; Book a Tour; Book a Room; Contact us;) stopped being forwarded to our email in late October 2020. We discovered approximately 400 undelivered forms!! We feel very badly about this and have started replying to those emails. We did see that there was a number of individuals who had requested to be added to this newsletter and have worked to match these emails and hopefully add those who had not been appropriately signed up to receive this newsletter. We do apologize for not responding to these undelivered forms in a timely manner. This issue has now been fixed.

If this is your first time reading our newsletter, I would encourage you to go to this link where you will find the previous newsletters should you wish to view them.  Should you ever not want to receive these newsletters, please follow the prompts on the newsletter at the bottom to unsubscribe.  Also, if you ever feel that you would prefer to not have a picture of your loved one included in our Family Newsletter, please reach out to Bobbie-Joe at bblackburn@lennox-addington.on.ca or by calling at ext 7224.

Mandatory Training Videos
Training videos are mandatory for you to watch prior to entering the building
A component of the Directives that the Ministry released includes a mandatory requirement for Homes to ensure that Essential Caregivers coming into the Home receive training on putting on and taking off PPE as well as training on effective hand washing.  Below are the 2 video clips for you to view.  You will be asked to confirm at the screening table that you have watched these 2 videos prior to entering.

Here are short video clips to resources that will help you to understand how to use PPE properly and how to effectively hand wash.

How to put on PPE -  https://www.publichealthontario.ca/en/videos/ipac-fullppe-on
How to Handwash - https://www.publichealthontario.ca/en/videos/ipac-handwash

This training needs to be completed prior to your first visit and then monthly thereafter.

Essential Caregiver Designation
The Ministry of Long Term Care updated visiting policy requires written documentation that supports the essential caregiver designation. As a result, we have created a PDF form that you can open electronically and fill in the blanks. There are a couple of options to return the form to us via email or fax. Alternatively, we will have hard copies of this document available with the screeners at JMPC where you can complete and drop off to them.

Essential Caregivers must submit this form to be approved as an essential caregiver prior to their visit in order to be permitted into the Home.

Should the resident/POA wish to change an essential caregiver, a new form will need to be submitted in advance.

Infection Control from the desk of Emily Sarley
We certainly want to say thank you to residents and families for overwhelmingly supporting the COVID vaccination program. Your quick replies to staff reaching out for consents and returning the consent sheets was really appreciated!

Given that residents received the Moderna vaccine, their second dose will be given in 28 days.

We were informed today that another consent will be required for the second dose and is different from the first consent form.  We are populating the information again (as we did with the last consent) right now. Once this has been completed we will mail this consent out as we did previously and again ask for you to complete, sign and return as you did before.
