From the Director's Desk
Cranbury Day is coming soon! On Saturday, September 10 take a short stroll up to 30 Park Place West, the location of our new library building. See in person how much progress has been made in the construction of our new community space. The outside of the building is pretty much done. Now the inside is being finished - walls, ceilings, painting, flooring and lighting should be completed this month. Once building inspections are passed we will be able to move in bookcases, furniture, equipment, and finally books. But I’m getting ahead of myself – first comes Cranbury Day!
First and foremost, we want you to see the new library! To celebrate the library’s outside space, we will have a StoryWalk® around the building. What is a StoryWalk®? It is a storybook that requires you to take a short walk to read it. We hope readers of all ages will walk around the library grounds, read the book, and explore this new outdoor area.
Another way to enjoy the open space surrounding the new library is to participate in outside games while there. On Cranbury Day the library is giving out Frisbees for just that purpose. Pick up yours and have some Frisbee fun!
As you may know, this year the town is celebrating Cranbury’s 325th anniversary. Part of the celebration included opening a time capsule from 1977. (You can see the contents in the Cranbury History Center.) The library thought it would be fun to construct another time capsule to be stored in the library’s new Historical Archive and opened on Cranbury’s 350th anniversary in 2047. We are inviting all residents to take part. Think of a current item that might be of interest to a person in the future. Maybe a picture of your house, a news article, or a small object. On Cranbury Day, Library staff and Board Members will have instructions on how you can submit an item for the time capsule. Items will be collected later this fall during the library’s grand opening celebration.
We will also have information on the upcoming Grand Opening of the new library so stop by, visit the StoryWalk®, play Frisbee, and get excited by the prospect of a brand new library!

Note: The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
