As you see above, the outside of the building is pretty much done. Now the inside is being finished - walls, ceilings, painting, flooring and lighting should be completed by October. Once final building inspections are passed and we are issued a Certificate of Occupancy we will be able to move in bookcases, furniture, equipment, and finally books. Hooray!

These hot summer days are the perfect time to sit in the shade with a cool drink and read. To make sure you have reading material, our temporary pocket library will stay open through August and most of September. Kids participating in our Summer Enrichment program can continue reading to earn points and win prizes until August 26. (see below)
In the meantime we are preparing for Cranbury Day. First and foremost, we want you to see the new library! On Saturday, September 10 take a short stroll up to 30 Park Place West, the location of our new library building. See in person how much progress has been made in the construction of our new community space.
To celebrate the library’s outside space, we will have a StoryWalk® around the building. What is a StoryWalk®? It is a storybook that requires you to take a short walk to read it. We hope readers of all ages will walk around the library grounds and read the book while enjoying this new outdoor area.
As you may know, this year the town is celebrating Cranbury’s 325th anniversary. Part of the celebration included opening a time capsule from 1977. (You can see the contents in the Cranbury History Center.) The library thought it would be fun to construct another time capsule to be stored in the library’s new Historical Archive and opened on Cranbury’s 350th anniversary in 2047. We are inviting all residents to take part. Think of a current item that might be of interest to a person in the future. Maybe a picture of your house, a news article, or a small object. On Cranbury Day, Library staff and Board Members will have instructions on how you can submit an item for the time capsule. Items will be collected later this fall during the library’s grand opening celebration.

Note: The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and developed in collaboration with the Vermont Bicycle & Pedestrian Coalition and the Kellogg Hubbard Library.
