American Historical Theater Presents: Elizabeth Cady Stanton

In celebration of Women's History Month, please join us on Saturday, March 18 at 2:30pm for the live actor portrayal of Elizabeth Cady Stanton- 19th century author, lecturer, and chief philosopher of the women’s rights and suffrage movements.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton shows us that reforms which would improve the human condition overall must be nurtured and fought for. From an early age, Elizabeth Cady realized that men held unfair advantages in just about every facet of life: education, occupation, legislation, property ownership, even in clothing style - and she was determined that she would embrace and speak out for reform. In 1848 Stanton was one of the chief organizers of the first United States Woman’s Rights Convention at Seneca Falls, New York. In partnership with Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton spent the latter half of the 19th century tirelessly speaking, writing, petitioning, and fighting for women’s rights in the United States.

This visit with Mrs. Cady Stanton will be a visit with an inspirational dynamo! She will encourage her guests to arm themselves with information, law, precedent, and energy in order to carry on the fight for equality! Program for ages 10-100. Register Here.

Cultural Change in the 1960s (Including Counter Culture)
Thursday, March 23, 6:30pm

Change was rampant in the 1960’s. From religion, to recreational drugs, to nuclear weapons, to the end of American Isolation, to the advent and the later widespread use of the contraceptive pill, to generational “gaps” there was the need to assimilate these changes and other changes into a New World. The process in the USA, in the shadow of the Vietnam War, was painful but inevitable. This presentation will trace the changes occurring after the Second World War and evaluate the way literature, politics, international relations, the family, and both the pre- and post-World War generations reacted to them.
