Growing Up in England in the 1950s
Monday, April 10, 6:30pm

Local history lecturer, Richard Moody, was born in Fleet, England towards the end of the Blitz in WWII, which ran from Sept 7 1940 to May 11 1941. Mr. Moody can still remember the sound of German bombers overhead due to their different engine noises.

And did you know...the small town of Fleet, in the county of Hampshire, in southern England takes its name from the Anglo Saxon word “Flete”, which meant a body of water, as there is a large lake on the edge of town - a lake which had to be drained during WWII since it was a conspicuous landmark for German bombers attempting to destroy the airfield at the nearby Royal Aircraft Establishment at Farnborough.

Fun-fact-lovers, boomers, history buffs, and fans of  PBS’s Call the Midwife will delight in this fascinating talk on WWII, the post war period, and English History! Register Here
