Glencoe Library Music Space |

Last January, Glencoe Library introduced a new creative resource to the public: the Music Space! In its first year, the Music Space has seen folks engage in a variety of projects, including father-son jam sessions, podcasting, original song recording, and impromptu piano practice. Library staff recently used it for an intergenerational storytelling program.
The cozy space has a lot to offer. It features two studio-quality RØDE microphones and three instruments: a Les Paul Epiphone electric guitar, an Alesis 8-piece electronic drum kit, and a Roland digital piano. Each instrument can be played using headphones, allowing you to play as loud as you want without affecting others in the Library. Another important piece of equipment is the Scarlett Audio Interface: the device that connects the microphones and instruments to the iMac computer, where you can then use GarageBand or Ableton Live software to record and edit sound.
A lesser-known, but exciting feature of the space is its adjustable lighting. The room’s main overhead lights can be dimmed, and a set of wall-mounted lamps, as well as colourful LED lights in the window, can be turned on to create a specific mood while playing.
All you need to use the Music Space is an up-to-date Middlesex County Library card. It is open to all cardholders, but patrons under the age of 11 must be supervised by an adult. It can be used on a walk-in basis or booked ahead of time by calling 519-287-2735. Want to learn more? Visit the Glencoe Library, explore the space, and start your own creative project! |
