Thursday, March 23, 1:00 pm
Community Room
In collaboration with the Joyce C. Young Enrichment Center at Washington Township's RecPlex, the Library invites you to read the book, join us for the movie (and snacks), and then we'll discuss both! Read: In the Heat of the Night (1965-Mystery) by John Ball, 185 pp (3.89/5 of 2,589 ratings). It's the 1960s. A hot August night lies heavy over the Carolinas. The corpse -- legs sprawled, stomach down on the concrete pavement, arms above the head -- brings the patrol car to a halt. The local police pick up a black stranger named Virgil Tibbs, only to discover that their most likely suspect is a homicide detective from California -- and the racially tense community's single hope in solving a brutal murder that turns up no witnesses, no motives, no clues. Film: In the Heat of the Night (1967). Running time 1 hour/45 min. MPAA rating: Unrated. Directed by Norman Jewison, starring Sidney Poitier, Rod Steiger, Warren Oates, and Lee Grant.Copies of this book will be distributed at the February meeting and, thereafter, available for pick up at Woodbourne Library.
