The winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, as well as seven other awards, The Sympathizer is the breakthrough novel of the year. With the pace and suspense of a thriller and prose that has been compared to Graham Greene and
Saul Bellow, The Sympathizer is a sweeping
epic of love and betrayal. The narrator, a communist double agent, is a “man of two minds,” a half-French, half-Vietnamese army captain who arranges to come to America after the Fall of Saigon, and while building a new life with other Vietnamese refugees in Los Angeles is secretly reporting back to his communist superiors in Vietnam.

Multiple copies of the book are available for reserve. See the Happy Bookers webpage for more information, and register online!

Classic Book Club
Wednesday, December 14, 7:00pm

“Classic” books are classic for a reason – their literary excellence transcends passing fads,
and they continue to engage readers generation after generation. If there are classics you have always meant to read “someday,” or if you read them in school before you were ready to appreciate them, now is the time to enjoy them with other adult readers.

This month we're reading Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi. Call the library for more information, or register online. See the Classic Book Club webpage for more information!
Cindy's Recipe Corner
With the holidays quickly approaching, I wanted to share a favorite side dish this month. This is simple and has cranberries and bacon, along with some green beans.  How can you go wrong? I like to use a chili-infused maple syrup that brings just a touch of heat to the beans, so feel free to experiment to match your tastes. And I prefer the beans to still be firm which is why I don’t steam them before tossing with the onion mixture. If you like them softer, steam them for 5 minutes or so before adding to the skillet.
