Classic Book Club: Mrs. Dalloway Tuesday, October 12, 7:00pm
“Classic” books are classic for a reason – their literary excellence transcends passing fads, and they continue to engage readers generation after generation. If there are classics you have always meant to read “someday,” or if you read them in school before you were ready to appreciate them, now is the time to enjoy them with other adult readers. Happy Bookers Discussion Group Wednesday, October 27, 7:00pm The author of Stiff and Bonk explores the irresistibly strange universe of space travel and life without gravity. Space is a world devoid of the things we need to live and thrive: air, gravity, hot showers, fresh produce, privacy, beer. Space exploration is in some ways an exploration of what it means to be human. As the author discovers, it’s possible to preview space without ever leaving Earth. From the space shuttle training toilet to a crash test of NASA’s new space capsule (cadaver filling in for astronaut), she takes us on a surreally entertaining trip into the science of life in space and space on Earth.

It’s October and now comes the choice of pumpkin spice or apple. I just couldn’t settle on one so I’m offering up some dinner ideas, courtesy of our Reference Librarian, Stephanie. Sheet pan dinners seem to be everywhere the last few months. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much success with them...the vegetables are always overcooked in the time it takes for the meat to fully cook. Until Stephanie told me about these gnocchi sheet pan recipes. I’ve now fixed them several times, with tasty results each time. They’re simple, quick, and versatile. I add some chopped onions to the Spicy Sausage and Peppers version for additional flavor (try it with some marinara sauce for a different taste). And the Garlicky Shrimp one is in regular rotation at my house. I’ve used fresh and frozen gnocchi, with no noticeable difference. We can all use a little simplicity (3-ingredient dinners!) in our lives and I hope you enjoy these easy dinners as much I do.
