Happy Bookers Discussion Group: The Splendid and the Vile
Wednesday, March 22, 7:00pm

On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next twelve months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally—and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows, in cinematic detail, how Churchill taught the British people “the art of being fearless.”

Classic Book Club
Wednesday, April 12, 7:00pm

“Classic” books are classic for a reason – their literary excellence transcends passing fads,
and they continue to engage readers generation after generation. If there are classics you have always meant to read “someday,” or if you read them in school before you were ready to appreciate them, now is the time to enjoy them with other adult readers.

This month we're reading Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. Call the library for more information, or register online. See the Classic Book Club webpage for more information!
Cindy's Recipe Corner
For this month I’m going with another family favorite, Chicken Taco Bowl. I think my daughter lived on this while away at school because of how easy it is to throw together and she was guaranteed to have leftovers for several more meals. Another great thing about this recipe is how easy it is to customize. Don’t like beans or corn? Leave them out. Want it spicier? Throw in some hot peppers. It’s also super simple to let everyone season it to taste with toppings. I have listed the basics, but feel free to use whatever taco toppings you like. Diced tomatoes, hot sauce, sour cream. The possibilities are endless. This is also a good recipe to double for a larger group of people. Just a warning: as you dish this up, it will grow, so start small. By the time you add everything else on top of the rice, you will have a pile of food.
