BRIDGE BUILDER in PETTICOATS - Carol Simon Levin on Emily Roebling and the Brooklyn Bridge Virtual Program | Available June 1- June 30 Most of us know the wondrous feat that was the late 19th century building of the Brooklyn Bridge. Most of us likely DON’T KNOW who was effectively “co-captain” of its engineering and construction. Carol shares the extraordinary saga and accomplishment of Emily Warren Roebling, who was thrust into project leadership by her husband’s incapacitation early on in the project. Carol covers it all with her customary panache and her extraordinary trove of archival information and illustration.

THE HOUSE OF FEAR June 14 (1945) (69 min.) Not Rated Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce are back as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as they investigate a series of deaths at a castle. This film is atmospheric and spooky and there are many who consider it one of the best Sherlock Holmes films.

June 21 (1937) (83 min.) Not Rated Based on a novel by Josephine Tey, this film is about an innocent man who is wanted for murder and gets help from a beautiful stranger. Nova Pilbeam and Derrick de Marney star in this early British Alfred Hitchcock film.

CHARLIE CHAN AT MONTE CARLO June 28 (1937) (72 min.) Not Rated It wouldn’t be a Mystery Movie Month at CDPL without one of our favorite detectives. Warner Oland stars as Charlie Chan who is in Monte Carlo for a vacation and gets caught up in a murder (of course!) He is joined in his investigation by Number One Son played by Keye Luke.

JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH June 17 (2021) (126 min.) Rated R Daniel Kaluuya stars as the real-life Black Panther Fred Hampton whose Party is infiltrated by an FBI informant. Also featuring LaKeith Stanfiled and Martin Sheen.

CRUELLA June 24 (2021) (134 min.) rated PG-13 Emma Stone stars in a live-action feature about the early life of one of cinema’s most notorious villains – Cruella de Vil. The film has a little bit of “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Ocean’s 11” and worth a viewing. Also featuring the always worth watching Emma Thompson.
