On July 1, North Attleborough will have a new form of government. The Representative Town Meeting and Board of Selectmen that have acted as the town’s legislature and executive will be replaced with a Town Council and a strong Town Manager. The library will change also: the current board of trustees has six elected members; after July 1 it will have seven appointed members. Final say on hiring the library director will be in the hands of the Town Manager from now on. One thing will not change and that is the commitment to serve the residents of North Attleborough. Thank you for your patronage.

We are still -- and will be until September 20 -- collecting gently used books, dvds, and cds for our September Book Sale. Just drop items off at the library. We would like to make up a raffle basket featuring Cape Cod items. If you are at the Cape this summer and would like to pick up something for the basket, we'd appreciate it. Just drop the item off at the Reference Desk. Thank you.

We do not have many programs for adults in the summer, but this is a good opportunity for you to read some longer books, try some of our streaming videos, and learn how to download audiio books to listen on your trips. If you have a new gadget that you want to learn how to use, give us a call. We will be offering a course on all of our electronic resources in August. Read about it in Maggie's blog. Our afternoon Book Discussion group meets at one of the member's house for a book talk/pot luck over the summer. We start up again in September. Books for our 1st discussion will be available in early August. The Pastel Workshop with Greg Maichack, Monday, July 15, at 5:30 pm is full and the waiting list is also full.

The word quasquicentennial, meaning 125th anniversary, was engineered by... well, an engineer! In 1961, Frank W. Hatten of Delavan, Illinois, asked Funk & Wagnalls, publishers of a popular encyclopedia and dictionaries (now online only), what word could be coined to mean 125th anniversary. Tiny Delavan would have celebrated its 125th anniversary in 1962. For our 125th Anniversary, we challenge individuals and families to figure out how many words they can make using the letters in QUASQUINCENTENNIAL. Words can be 2 to 17 letters long. Examples include cent and quail. Bring your list to the library to be entered in our raffle.
