We would encourage all patrons who may have an issue with walking on snow or ice, to please wait until the day after a snowy day to come to the library. Our service cannot keep the sidewalks clear when it is continuously snowing. If you have a hold that is going to expire, please call the library and we can hold the item for you an extra few days. If you call us (with your library card #) before you come, we can bring the books out to your car. For home-bound people, we can also provide delivery.

In the winter we often see people who need scarves. We get plenty of donations of hats, but scarves (and even gloves) for adults would be greatly appreciated. You can drop them off at the library or at the pantry in Town Hall. Thank you.

Many thanks to all who participated in the great Tomte count last month. Reports were that the Tomte found Richards' patrons curious, excitable, entertaining and very respectful of boundaries. Several Tomte will be returning to their homes with their reports, but others have extended their visas and will remain for the winter. We would like to thank The Black Opal Florist shop and Altitude Trampoline Park for generously donating prizes for the drawing. January brings the return of story times which are listed in the sidebar on this page. We are having a Book Chat Brunch for kids eight years old and older on Saturday, Jan.18, at 11 am. If you have read a book so wonderful that you just have to tell someone, come tell us over brunch. Registration begins Jan. 2. There will be a Tween Selfie Scavenger Hunt for kids eight years old and older on Tuesday Jan. 21, at 6:30 pm. Tweens will work in teams to complete the scavenger hunt at the library, taking selfies along the way. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team and there will be treats for all, Registration begins Jan. 2. Please note that if school is cancelled due to inclement weather, children's programs are cancelled. Also, if travel becomes difficult due to the weather, please call us before venturing out to come to the library. We do try remain open as long as it is safe to do so.
