On Tuesday, Sept. 4, summer hours will end at the library and RML will reopen on its regular schedule. This year the library is returning to its full schedule of hours mandated by the state Library Com-missioners: 59 hours per week over 6 days. That means that we will return to staying open to 5:00 pm on Friday and Saturday afternoons. We haven’t been open a full schedule for several years now and it will be a relief to do so. This is also the first year since FY 2010 that the library will not need to submit a waiver application to the Library Commissioners to be certified and maintain reciprocal borrowing privileges with other communities. That’s a relief, too. Throughout the difficulties of the past decade the town has always supported the library and its service to the community. Thank you.

Have you seen those little houses on posts/walls with clear doors and FREE BOOKS for the taking inside? These Little Free Libraries are made possible by volunteers who have taken the time to build, install and through stewardship, maintain them. The Friends of Richards Memorial Library is looking to sponsor this program and are looking for volunteers to build some boxes, hopefully using recycled/stashed/donated materials. Read more about it on Maggie's blog. https://wp.me/p9tYO-dJ

The public computers now have links to the library edition of Ancestry for patrons to use for genealogy research. You can search by name, dates and place as well as add more limits by adding siblings, birth dates, parents and more. The normal session is for an hour, but you can schedule for more time. You need to email the results to yourself.

We had a great summer in the Children's Room. The Friends provided the funds for visits from owls, magicians, a Lego master builder, a soap maker, rabbits, Miss Meg's Music and movement, and, even an alligator along with snakes and lizards. Our Act Up performers put on quite a show. We partied with Pete the Cat, were elegant at a tea party and made messes on messy day. AND the kids of North Attleborough did a great deal of reading! Life is good in the good old summertime! Many, many thanks to the Friends for funding our programs! Story times begin the week of September 10th. We are very excited to have a young man from North Attleborough High School who will be conducting a S.T.E.M. program beginning on Friday, September 28th, at 3:30 pm. Make sure to check us out.

RML, along with some of the other SAILS libraries, is instituting Automatic Renewals starting Sept. 2. Three days before an item is due, the system will attempt to automatically renew from that due date. If there are holds, the item has already been renewed, your account is blocked or the item is from ComCat or ILL, then it cannot be renewed and you will receive the usual notification.

Throughout the month of October, the Library will be full of display of artificial and real flowers that represent a wide variety of books. These displays will be made by staff, members of the Angle Tree Garden Club, and local residents. If you are interested in creating your own display for this program, contact Maggie Holmes by September 15.
