The Richards Memorial Library is the only member of the SAILS Library Network that accepts food for fines throughout the entire year. Other libraries, if they accept food at all in lieu of fines, usually do so for limited periods of time, often leading up to Thanksgiving. But the problem of hunger is not seasonal, which is why our collection policy is year ‘round. Food brought to the Richards Memorial is distributed through Lenore’s Pantry, located in the Board of Health office at Town Hall. Scores of households in North Attleborough depend on Lenore’s Pantry to make ends meet. In summertime food donations tend to drop off so please consider paying for any overdue fines with canned and/or dried food here at RML. Thank you.

Stairway to Zeppelin on Thursday, July 12, at 6:30 pm. When Led Zeppelin II replaced Abbey Road as the #1 album in December of 1969, it symbolized a "passing of the torch" into a new era in popular music. This 60-minute multimedia presentation observes how 1960s rock bands like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones paved the way for Led Zeppelin in the 1970s. Aaron Krerowicz, Beatles and music scholar, will entertain us with this look at the music of these ages. Please register to reserve your seat. On Monday, July 16, at 5:30 pm* Greg Maichack will be back for his pastel workshop on Monet's Water Lilies. Participants will leave the workshop with their own drawing of the lilies. This is a popular program with limited seating so reserve your space early. You will be pleased by the art work you create in this 2 hour class. This program is supported in part by a grant from the North Attleborough Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency. We will also have our Summer Poetry, Short Prose and Acoustic Music Open Mike on Sunday, July 29, from 1:30 pm to 3 pm. Join us for good fun, air-conditioning and snacks.

We are starting a Best Seller Shelf this summer that will feature some of the best sellers such as Patterson, Roberts, Baldacci and Evanovich on a first-come, first-served basis. These copies will be able to go out for 2 weeks with no renewals and no holds. If you are lucky, the book is on the shelf; if not, place a hold on one of the copies that circulate as usual. The shelf will be in the same area as the New Fiction. Placing a hold on your favorite authors before they hit the shelf is still the easiest way to get your books. Go to https://www.rmlonline.org/new-books/Bestsellers where we already have November's books listed.
