The Annual Town Meeting will begin on Monday, June 5. The Finance Committee voted to recommend a budget to the Meeting that would keep the library operating with a level-funded budget (that may even prove to be optimistic once the state’s budget is finalized). There had been a proposal from one member of the committee to ease the town’s financial crisis, especially that of the School Department’s, by completely closing other departments around the town. The library was one of the departments to be shuttered; others were Parks & Rec, and the Council on Aging, and the Forestry division of the DPW. This had also been proposed a couple of years ago. On both occasions the proposal did not receive any support from other committee members. To save money after Proposition 2½ was passed in the 1980s, North Attleborough "temporarily” closed the ski run at the World War I Memorial Park. And. It. Never. Came. Back. North Attleborough is facing tremendous financial challenges that will only become worse next year. Everyone has a stake in deciding what kind of town they want to live in. Please become engaged in the process.

Now Collecting Donations for Fall Book Sale
|
|
We will be collecting books, dvds and cds for the September Friends of the Library book sale throughout the summer. Please bring items that are in good, saleable condition. We do not accept textbooks, encyclopedias, Reader's Digest condensed books, videocassettes or magazines. The book sale is the major fundraiser for the Friends organization. Thank you for donating.

Sign-up for Summer Reading and the Summer Programs begins June 28. This summer we will have a "whole lotta buildin' goin' on" at the library. As a little prequel to the fun, if you are free on the morning of Saturday, June 17, and maybe in need of a couple of community service hours, climb into your gardening duds and come help us begin to build a little reading garden at the library. Our official Summer Reading opener will feature Jackson Gilman, the amazing Human Stand-Up Chameleon on Wednesday, June 28, at 10:30 am! Be part of the laughter and magic of Songs and Stories for a Small Planet. During the summer there will be construction & engineering programs, a mime program, a visit from a traveling museum, arts and crafts and mess-making opportunities and parties and plenty of wonderful reading. The plan is to earn enough pieces (1 piece for every 5 books read) to construct a bridge from one side of the children's room to the other. Hint: reading will be the easy part. Keep your eyes on the library as we build a better world.

This summer for our Summer Book Discussion Group we will be reading award winning books and discussing them at our pot lucks held at members' homes. For July we will each choose a Pulitzer Prize book and for August, a National Book Award book. Through the Enterprise catalog you can find a clickable list of these books by clicking on the Fun for Readers link on the left side and then the Award Winner list on the right side. If you are interested in joining us at the pot lucks, please register at the Reference Desk with your email address. The program on Eisenhower with Dr. Gary Hylander (June 1 and 8 at 7 pm) is full.
