The new Town Charter calls for an increase in the number of trustees from six to seven. The trustees meet once a month, almost always on the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM. Currently the trustees are rewriting their by-laws to reflect the changes that have taken place. Formerly elected, current elected trustees will serve out their terms but then all the seats on the board will be appointed. The deadline to apply to fill the new seventh seat is noon time on Friday, August 2. Applications can be found in the office of the Town Manager at Town Hall.

The Richards Memorial Library, as part of its 125th Anniversary year-long celebration, will be collecting new school backpacks in support of Rep. Betty Poirier’s Annual Supply Sack Drive. The backpacks will be added to Poirier’s collection, which is done on behalf of foster children throughout the state. The Supply Sack program is designed to “assist our very vulnerable children entering the Foster Care/DCF Program,” according to Poirier. "Many of these children enter this program without anything – just the clothes on their backs; therefore, it is my hope to be able to give these children/young adults something as they newly enter the program – something that they can say is theirs.” Please bring new backpacks (all sizes and designs welcome) to the Circulation Desk at the library. The backpacks will then be given to Poirier’s program to be filled with school supplies and personal care items. The library drive will end August 31.
