The Richards Memorial Library is governed by an elected board of trustees. Currently there are six trustees, two of whom are elected every three years. That is about to change. On April 2 the voters in town adopted a new charter that will go into effect on July 1. The number of trustees on the board will increase to seven and the positions be appointed in the future by the new town manager with the consent of the new town council. All the current trustees will continue in the terms until those terms expire and then the positions will become appointed. Anyone interested in serving should keep an eye out for the advertisement that will appear.

We invite people to bring paintings they no longer want to the library on Saturday, May 18, from 2 to 4 pm, and maybe go home with something new to hang on their walls. People will be responsible for taking back any item that doesn't get claimed. Many years ago the library used to have a picture collection so that people could check out art work for 6 months. We don't have the space to do that any more so this is in honor of that former practice. You might want to take unclaimed pictures to one of the local donation stores in town if you really want to get rid of them.

For our 125th anniversary we have created a way to share your memories of the library. In order to be added to our collection, your contribution should reflect something you remember about your experiences at the Richards Memorial Library (or the branch in Attleboro Falls.) It can reference a particular staff member, event, book or even homework assignment. The contribution can be from individuals, families or groups (such as a Boy Scout or Girl Scout troop). See Maggie's Blog for more suggestions. It is also important that you either created or own the rights to the item and can assign those to us, and that it is not the copyrighted work of another.
