West Windsor Branch Library’s 2019 Amateur Photo Contest* June 17 – September 10 The Photo Contest is open to all patrons with a Mercer County Library Card. Professional photographers are excluded from the Contest. Each member is allowed one entry submitted as a 5x7 photo print. Entry forms and rules can be found on the MCL website or picked up from the West Windsor Branch. The theme for the 2019 Photo Contest is “ Summer Days.” The last day for submissions is September 10, 2019.

The West Windsor Branch Adult Summer Reading Program June 24 - August 10 Participants can pick up a prize book at the reference desk when they sign up for the program and when they return their log at the end of the program. Sign up is in-person at the reference desk and online. There will also be a prize drawing at the end of the program for one of three Barnes and Noble gift certificates.

Active Aging: Fitness with Bob* Tuesdays, July 2 & 9, 1 – 2 pm Want to exercise? Come and enjoy a stretching, low-impact, balance-oriented program designed by Certified Fitness instructor Bob Kirby. Bob's program incorporates music, yoga and FUN while focusing on posture, mobility, flexibility, strength and meditation. Please bring a water bottle and let's get MOVING! As with any exercise program, check with your healthcare provider to make sure you are able to participate.

The Lost Cause - How the South Saw the Civil War* Monday, July 15, 7 – 8 pm The Lost Cause was a mythology created by Confederates to justify their catastrophic defeat and establish themselves as victims of Northern aggression. It was based on dishonest and badly distorted historical claims. It is still widely believed today. Presenter Martin Mosho reveals how the South were the true aggressors who created a racist, frequently violent culture before, during and after the Civil War, and shows how Hollywood and the TV industry contributed to the South's mythology.

Le Guin's Hainish novels and stories are brought together in a single edition, complete and with new introductions by the author. Beginning in the 1960s and 70s, these remarkable works redrew the map of modern science fiction. In such visionary masterworks as the Nebula and Hugo Award winners The Left Hand of Darkness and The Dispossessed, Le Guin imagined a galactic confederation of human colonies founded by the planet Hain--an array of worlds whose divergent societies was the result of both evolution and genetic engineering. Friday Morning Bookies Friday, July 19, 10:30 am – 12 pm, Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead Cora is a slave on a cotton plantation in Georgia. When Caesar, a recent arrival from Virginia, tells her about the Underground Railroad, they decide to take a terrifying risk and escape. Though they manage to find a station and head north, they are being hunted. Their first stop is South Carolina, in a city that initially seems like a haven. But the city's placid surface masks an insidious scheme designed for its black denizens. And even worse: Ridgeway, the relentless slave catcher, is close on their heels. Adult Crafts Wednesday, July 10, 10 – 11 am This month, we make Paper Baskets. Learn to recycle paper into baskets and get organized! All materials will be provided. For ages 18 and up. Registration is required, space is limited. If a registered participant fails to show up, that space will be filled with walk-ins -- so feel free to stop by just before 10 am to see if there is room.
