Gay coming-of-age young adult novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda kicks off the bestselling Simonverse series and serves as the inspiration for the TV series Love, Victor, which is set in the same Atlanta high school and features appearances from Simon himself.

The summer I turned pretty

Following the smash success of the To All the Boys I've Loved Before films for Netflix, another of Jenny Han's popular teen romance series gets a streaming adaptation this summer.

Love & gelato

Jenna Evans Welch's Tuscany-set teen romance gets the screen treatment in an evocative adaptation (set in Rome this time) that was actually filmed in Italy.

Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Pearl, and Sir Orfeo
by J. R. R. Tolkien

A collection of three medieval English poems translated by Tolkien for the modern-day reader and edited by his son, Christopher Tolkien. 

The classic tale has been re-imagined, featuring Dev Patel. Available now on Amazon Prime.
Ms. Marvel: No Normal
by G. Willow Wilson; illustrated by Adrian Alphona

Newcomer Iman Vellani stars as Kamala Khan, Marvel's first Muslim superhero, in a new series created by Loki screenwriter Bisha K. Ali that's based on the award-winning graphic novel series by G. Willow Wilson.

Where to watch: Ms. Marvel is currently streaming on Disney+; catch Kamala alongside Captain Marvel in 2023's The Marvels.

The Mighty Thor: Thunder in her veins
by Jason Aaron; illustrated by Russell Dauterman

Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor in director Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder, based on Jason Aaron's Mighty Thor graphic novel series, which sees Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) take up the mantle of Thor. 

Where to watch: Thor: Love and Thunder is released in theatres on 7 July. 
Blonde: A novel
by Joyce Carol Oates

A fictional recreation of the life of Marilyn Monroe recounts the tale of her rise to stardom, as seen from Marilyn's perspective.
 
The Netflix film stars Ana de Armas and is garnering a lot of attention and is due to stream from 23 September.
Persuasion
by Jane Austen

Dakota Johnson (The Lost Daughter) headlines a new adaptation of Jane Austen's sixth and final novel, co-starring Henry Golding (Crazy Rich Asians).

Where to watch: Persuasion premieres 15 July on Netflix.
Where the Crawdads Sing

Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) stars as Kya, an isolated woman living in a North Carolina marsh who is suspected of murdering an old flame, in this adaptation of Delia Owens' bestselling novel.
