Hayden Library Welcomes New Manager
Jessica Bowman has been named the new community librarian and manager at Hayden Library. She is no stranger there, having moved from the youth services department to her new position. The previous library manager now works for the Spokane Valley District Library. A North Idaho native, Bowman started her library career in Sandpoint checking books out, answering reference questions, and cataloging materials. “I’ve always loved libraries,” she said. “Books have been a monumental piece of my life.” With an undergraduate and master’s degree in history, she earned her Master's of Library and Information Science degree from San Jose State University. Her first professional position was as the adult services librarian for the Latah County Library District, a seven-branch system. When the opportunity came up, Bowman started working for the Community Library Network at Hayden. While she enjoyed working with youth, she also wanted to broaden the scope of what libraries could bring to their community. “With my previous experience and knowing staff and members at Hayden, I feel like I have a head start,” she said. “I look forward to working with Hayden community partners to make the library even more accessible to everyone.”
