Post Falls Library Summer Fair, Saturday, June 29
Most folks don’t think of the library as a place for a fair, but that is what the Community Library Network at Post Falls has planned on Saturday, June 29, 1 to 3 p.m. Just like any fair, it will be held outdoors with entertainment, food and animals, only on a smaller scale. For example, instead of cows and sheep, the Kootenai Humane Society will be on hand with their adorable and adoptable dogs and cats. Umpqua Bank will bring an ice cream truck and provide free treats for everyone. And entertainment will feature southern style Americana tunes by Miller’s Sun Music, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Families can also play shuffleboard, great big animal puzzles, mini cornhole, and more to win friendly bragging rights for their victories. Fair goers are invited to come into the library and get or renew their library card, sign up for Summer Reading, check out a book or movie, and win small chocolate prizes. For more events happening at a library near you, visit CommunityLibrary.Net/Programs.

Library Network Takes Part in Mini Maker Faire
The Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—or at least the greatest in North Idaho—will unfold on the North Idaho College campus on Saturday, July 13, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Headed up by Gizmo-CDA, Community Library Network staff will be on hand to introduce folks to the Maker Movement. Emerging Technology Librarian Nick Madsen says, “We helped plan this event along with Gizmo-CDA, North Idaho College, and the University of Idaho-CDA to celebrate creativity and invention.” This free, family-friendly event brings together people with varying backgrounds to showcase what their imaginations have produced. The Maker Movement is not limited to technology enthusiasts, engineers, and tinkerers, but includes crafters, educators, food artisans, hobbyists, artists and others who take an idea and make it a reality. Madsen thinks it is a terrific chance to explore because people learn by doing; building knowledge and hands-on skills to solve complex problems. “It’s a powerful way to learn,” he says, “and making something by trial and error builds confidence that translates into other endeavors.” Madsen notes that there will be opportunities for attendees to learn to become makers themselves. People can learn how to cut gemstones, create Cosplay costumes, transform a gourd into art, and learn about animation, among other activities.
