Hello KCPL Staff!
My name is Monika Jaensson. I’m a mother of two young men – Quint, who is turning 20 and a business major at WVU, and Kristian, who is 17 and finishing his Junior year at George Washington High School. They are my dear ones. Professionally, I’m an intellectual property attorney with Dinsmore & Shohl. I received an Electrical Engineering degree from Lafayette College in 1990, prosecuted applications at the U.S. Patent Office, and obtained my law degree from Washington & Lee University in 1993. I practiced law in Louisville, Kentucky until 1995, when I moved to West Virginia to start a family.
My favorite hobbies are running, amateur photography of flowers (on my runs), making bread, and READING (highly recommend Where the Crawdads Sing – don’t tell me the ending). I joined KCPL in 2012, and am the current President of the Board – so blessed. As a child I was an avid reader for two reasons: (1) we did not have a TV; and (2) my mother rewarded reading. I remember every summer she would have us complete rather sophisticated math workbooks – the reward was a book from the bookstore (we usually checked out our books from the library, but to own books was really special). As a daughter of immigrants, English was not strong in our household – but together and through lots and lots of reading, we learned to love the language.
